Kleemann SLK 55K S8

BD are you thinking of the AMG split rims? They are my favourites. However, they are fragile especially on UK roads. I’ve got two with cracks now and I’m reluctant to get the repaired and use them.

I’ve now got 5 spoke 18” and the ride is much better as well - don’t look half as good though.

A model 3 doesn't produce more horsepower than this SLK so why would you say it's a myth it would be faster? Talking rubbish and showing your ignorance
If that's aimed at me than that's not at all what I said !!!.....quite the opposite in fact. I said it was a myth that they were slow over 60.....slower ( as in less quickly accelerating) than they are a lower speed.....but still way faster from 60 up than most ICE cars. Most performance EVs produce way more power so they would be quicker....goes without saying really. But obviously a more powerful ICE should beat it. Although this does not always seem to be the case.....EVs seem to be very good at getting the power down with minimal traction loss loss which gets them a lead that sometimes more powerful ICE cars cant real back until the power advantage lets them slowly reel them in.....not relevant in the real world of course.
At a track-day I was at on Goodwood track a while back a Porsche Taycan was by FAR the quickest around the track....the Ice Porsches and Ferraris looked pedestrian by comparison. OK it was the "turbo" version with 671 hp.....but it was so much faster than the other 500 or 600hp plus cars that I felt sorry for them......max torque (850mn) at pretty much any speed will do that. Did it make me want one.....no of course not.......the sound alone of the real cars would have been worth the purchase cost.....and of course although slow by comparison still way more than you could ever use on the road....where most of our miles are done.

Yes I’d really like a set of 19-inch AMG IV split rim alloys (in silver). They’re a handsome wheel and look great in the SLK.

We just have the standard MB black leather/metal plate ones (not AMG or Kleemann ;)) - I actually found a brand new one in a drawer yesterday, still in its bag! We had a GTG at MB Romford back in 2007 and we all got one as a freebie (it says 'MB London' on it) :)

I'd never noticed before how the shape/style has changed over the years:

Not to far from where I'm based. Dealership is now Kia Authorised dealers. Would have been handy if they were still there 🙂

An MBClub day at Santa Pod would be fantastic, so we could see first hand just how quick EVs are, see the difference between standard and modified cars, and my personal favourite would be to put the various AMG engines up against each other.

In relative terms an EV’s performance “reduces” as speeds rise, or said differently their advantages are greatest at slower road speeds (and especially from rest).

That doesn’t mean that quick EV’s are not quick at high speeds - they are - but ICE cars which are slightly less quick from rest, will be a fair bit quicker at high speeds.

In the UK and on the road, a Model 3 Performance would drop the majority of very quick ICE cars, unless it’s a rolling race from already-illegal speeds.

My Mrs has a Polestar 2 EV, just the single-motor one (so the "slower" of the range) and it's very much a case of this - runs out of puff above around 60. This also impacts range; cruising at 60 is far more efficient than at 70. It's also not the quickest from a standstill (quite a lot of mass to get moving) but if you floor it from about 15 or 20mph it moves far quicker than you'd expect.

This is by no means a "performance EV" (although I've been in a dual-motor model and that was surprisingly fast) however. Never driven a Tesla so can't compare but my findings with her P*2 broadly support your post :)

Looks good.....but there is stuff thats not very pretty that should be hidden........needs the factory cover somehow adapted to fit.....if not then at least the unused cover fitting lugs removed.
Today I installed a brand new engine cover as fitted to the SL 55 AMG and other models with the M113K engine with a supercharger between the airboxes.

It fits perfectly and neatens up the engine bay nicely. There’s a slight difference in colour between the cover and the airboxes, I suspect down to heat and age.

A few days ago I also replaced the standard oil filler cap with an AMG oil filler cap which is just about visible in the circular cutaway in the engine cover.

Kleemann used to offer the same cover with a Kleemann K logo where the Mercedes tri-star goes, but this Mercedes part is the only new option available now.

Hi Bobby,
The car is fire mist red and he has aftermarket Fiske rims, he also runs a smaller pulley from Kleeman. He purchased the SLK 55 new in 2005. California car, never been in the rain.

Sounds very special 👌🏻

My car stayed with it’s first owner until I bought it last month too.

Looks much better with the cover on 👌. Do you know if they fitted an LSD? and what size rear tyres are you running?

Thank you for your kind words. I don’t believe it has an LSD, but not yet done a thorough inspection.
