L.P.G. In a SL500?

I sort of agree, but if Alfie is going to keep it then it doesn't matter...

If he keeps it 3 years its probably losing a fair bit a year anyway there WILL be someone that buys it especially if petrol prices keep high and lpg remains the same price gap.

I bet if someone had asked to gas a new shape ML500 or GL500 their would be little problem...

just as its an SL....

Since I have been looking at W140's recently as a cure to my runnning woes I have realised just how cheap an S320/S500 can be - they can be had for 190/124 money! A few weeks ago I saw an S320 go for less than £1000, and a really good car can be had for well under £5k

With this in mind I also thought about an LPG conversion for either my SL or a W140 Coupe/Saloon and it can make a real difference to running costs if you do more than weekend mileage. Over the last 6 years and 50K miles it would have made a real difference to my running costs on the SL!

As LPG has a higher octane rating than petrol it might be a laugh in the twin turbo 190...........

I would certainly consider it on an R129 :)

Now im not thinking of doing this (yet:rolleyes: ) but has anyone ever done this?

With the powers that be grinding motorists for every penny, it is something i would think of in years to come, (when petrol is O.T.T. price wise/running out, and we HAVE TO find a alternative.)

Does L.P.G. effect performance and would it fit in the boot? (cos im NEVER SELLING:) )

LPG and Mercs never seem to work together.

LPGing a late SL is akin to fitting a diesel engine and a towbar....

Be careful, a cheap W140 is likely to end up being very expensive...

I dont think I would buy one to use for silly money - but it is amazing what you can get for £5k in a W140

If you want newer then Jaymanek has this beauty for sale 2002 S500 for under £10k.
Now whilst I can justify the purchase price to myself I cant justify S500 running costs :) - LPG may or may not solve that for me.

I resemble the Michelin man :D

Do it!

My brother did it to his 4.2ltr Audi A8. roughly 1 sec slower in kick down, otherwise fine:

Alfie,
That is like.......??? It's like......................

Ummmmmm

It compares with stirring a cup of tea clockwise!!

LPG conversion on an SL

It's like using margarine instead of ...................... butter

LPG conversion!!!!!

I'm not going to sleep tonight

Go put on an ****nal shirt and say six Hail BMW's

Take care
Regards
John

I knew people would have strong thoughts on messing about with such a good engine BUT put on a assnal shirt?
I really am almost stuck for words, thats bang out of order, just sick :p

I have never driven one, but a friend of mine has a 210 E320 with an admittedly older LPG kit in it, and it seems to be fine. And as a rule I don't have a problem with it, honest.

Its just that they don't tend to be associated with the R230, I would also be concerned what it would do to the residuals. I would be less worried about buying a car with the conversion worth 10k , than one worth around £30k.

It really is not something i plan in the near future, (no money left anyway.)
I was looking at the options/how good they are/costs/running advantages/disadvantages.

As i said on at the top, im not getting rid of this car, (well at least 25years, cos thats how long i have been saving for a SL.)
