Am i right in thinking that LPG cars also still run on petrol?

Yup, they start on petrol - I believe generally when cold. The ones at work do.

Not sure about a bigger engine such as a V8, whether that makes any difference to starting or not

Its still quite a big boot, just not a great shape.
I would hope the gas bottle would fit in the smaller gap in the boot, directly behind the back seats, (before the boot widens out to the back.)

Remember you can have it in the spare wheel well aswell!
