Latest firmware Upgrade for 211 COMAND

Can't comment on the early W211's but my E320 (MAY 2005 build) only had one mandatory TSB which was for the SBC. All the Comand updates/issues I had to sort out myself and it took 7 months.

This must be pretty much dependent on the individual shop and even the individual person serving the car, unfortunately. I've heard some intentionally avoiding doing updates that SDS does not force the mechanic to perform. Some are afraid the update fails which introduces additional work.

An expert who has a lot of experience would probably take care of all updates better than one who has less experience (also gains less experience that way).

Recalls and TSB's are completely seperate issues.

Technical service Bulletins are circulated to main dealers worldwide and whenever cars visit a workshop for routine servicing any outstanding service work will be carried out.

An official recall is a completely seperate issue where owners are requested to take their car to a dealer to have specific work carried out. Since 2005 there have been at least two official recalls.

John

Right,
Here is a TSB,
As usual it is an American example but that is because they are easier to obtain. The same instructions though are sent Worldwide and what applies in country 'a', will where appropriate apply in country 'b'

What we are discussing is an audio condition, namely the car cannot play Mp3's. The instruction to the dealer is quite clear.

John,

I am sure you are correct - but I most certainly asked for any outstanding updates to be applied to my car each time it went to the dealers - every time I was told that there wern't any. They checked by entering the VIN number into the computer.

All I got was the SBC recall and the Comand updates I instigated myself and lastly a "cluster software" update to the fix the assyst service intervals which went out the window after the first service - and thats a whole another story in itself!!

But they would need to connect SDS to see the SW status of different control units, the need for "smaller" updates cannot be seen from their data base just from the VIN. Recall work is different but I don't think the example from John would be considered a recall item in Europe.

I guess we may have a different interpretation for recalls too, I consider that as a safety issue, the example case is something they should perform at scheduled service but no need to bring the car in between services.

John,

Very interesting - the TSB above is issue b - August 207, issue a is May 2006 and original issue is Sept 2004. this correlates with the 3 Comand HU sw updates.

The part no 589 14 22 00 is for the USA disk - UK equivalent is 589 13 22 00.

I would guess the original issue fixed the MP3

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE and yes I am shouting, :) I am NOT saying a TSB is a recall, NEVER have and please shoow me where I have mistakenly said so! I have made this point time and time again and continually and hopefully clearly stated that this work should be carried out when the car goes in for routine service work.

:) The reference goes back to the 2003 E-class (MY03) and yes the listed update disc is much newer than the one I posted because the one I posted was the original CD which was released in early 2004.

We are now years ahead and the original CD has been replaced by newer versions, but they are backwards compatible and the very latest CD will suffice.

Clearly some folks want to nit pick and yup, enough is enough. I've done my best.

Sorry if my post was misleading, I was not quoting your comment John and "we" was supposed to be generic reference to all forum members. Even if I mentioned your post, I thought I was not claiming you would have one or the other interpretation of a recall or a TSB, you can consider me the last one challenging any of your posts. Sorry again if my words were put incorrectly, I have the excuse of not being a native English speaking person. :o

Mercedes Update CD

Hi guys, just woundering if you can help... i have a viano with comand 2.0 installed. I tried to use the new 7.0 version in my system but it doesnt seem to be working. Ive been reading about updates.. but i was woundering if anyone can point me in the right direction of where to obtain one and if i can download it??

Thanks in advance

You have the A/B/C/CLK/ML/GL/R/forfour/Vito/Viano/Sprinter APS DVD?

I don't think there is a version 7 disk for your model

You should have one of ...

V6.3 (MB part number B6 782 36 95 and A169 827 45 59)
V8.0 (MB part number B6 782 37 43 and A169 827 51 89)
V9.0 (MB part number B6 782 38 48 and A169 827 50 59)

If you have
V7.0 (MB part number B6 782 38 55 and A211 827 10 65)
Then this is for a different system.

Hi there,

I have a mercedes viano cd navigation type dx. The version 7.0 is the latest version and has the part number B6 782 3780

Hi,
I think a lot of folks are putting two and two tegether and getting the answer wrong. ;) The topic for this thread is in regard to the E-class 211 and similar COMAND systems. I believe your particular vehicle does not have this model? I stand to be corrected but both Alfie or Richard might be in a better position to help resolve your specific issue.

good luck
John

I have the Comand APS. Does this comand from you mentioned have some difference from mine?
Do you need some pics to evaluate?
I don't understand where to find the difference between your and mine.
Can you help me please to understand? Thank You

I tend to get confused with all the differing versions and it looks like newer models may vary. Here is an interesting link that might confirm your thoughts.

Hello John,

Removed under censorship

Alessadro MB disks are copyrighted.
for 30 euro more or less you could get one original from your MB dealer.

That censorship is quite funny as I fell foul of it last year when I suggested a dodgy practice with a loan car I had. Glad it's not only my naivity that grabs attention!

Back to the topic of sorts. I'm looking to upgrade my very old disc/software in my E211 on an 04 plate, so i assume it's v3 or V4. Never taken the plunge due to the high cost involved but I notice on ebay an original 2009 v9 disc for sale (and deffo for the W211 e class) and a cd to upgrade older versions of firmware to allow full functionality.

I'm way out of date with what the latest version is or what it costs from MB but it looks entirely genuine and I'm thinking of putting in a bid.

Before I do though, does anyone spot an obvious slap across the forehead with this or could it indeed be genuine (and now increasing in price due to my inadvertant advertising!!). It V9 the latest and greatest?

Cheers.

Andy.
