Led interior lights worth swapping the normal ones for?

Hello

Has anyone bothered to change the interior bulbs to the LED types and if so any benifit? pics before and after?

I keep toying with the idea of swapping my car and then come back to the idea its very good and see no point swapping for the same but newer.

So keep thinking of things I could 'do'

other items include...

Slight lower? but I tow with it so not sure about lowering it?
Larger wheels (but 18" actually a good compromise ride / comfort)
New style front / rear.
Double din radio / dvd (not command)

Sorry, what model of car are we talking about? :)

Ref the LED interior, it's a yes from me. It's definitely worth it.. It improves the look and visibility from inside the car and outside.

The bulbs I have give a really nice ice blue / White light and I have changed every single bulb that could be changed in the car including glovebox, middle storage box light, map(little reading light), dome, rear dome, boot and puddle lights.

Without going on, it's definitely worth doing but the only negative I have is that they are bright and take some getting used to, sometimes at night when I know someone or myself is going to be getting out of the car I will purposefully disable the lights from coming on as they are so bright.

But when locking the car and walking away the fade that the LEDs do is just lovely and does look really good. I have had a few comments on them aswell when getting out and locking it.. All positives to.

The kit cost me around £30 but I got it from a friend. Will post some pictures eventually, although I don't have any befores.

Hope this helps..

I guess it's a matter of taste, but i prefer the warm look of standard bulbs over the white-blue leds. Only ones i would consider are warm white leds, just to reduce power draw from battery and becouse they last long time.

Depends how much time you spend in the car in the dark I guess :D

I swapped all the interior lights in my Vito, i like the look of the LED's over the standard bulbs (mine are just white LED's) ! My LED's aren't massively bright, but brighter than the standard bulbs! Didn't go as far as the glove box! But nice touch all the same.

Im another big fan of the LED's, i too have replaced every interior bulb over to LED 18 in all
2 in dome
2 up under dash
4 in bottom of doors (puddle lights)
2 by both rear grab handles
2 in bottom of rear view mirror
1 in glove box
1 in boot
4 in both visor vanity mirrors

I also changed the front side lights and number plate lights over to white LED too..

Here's a pic of some lit up:

as it's been mentioned they are very bright but my camera phone doesn't pick the light up too well

Here's what most of the bulbs i changed look like:

They look good, mine are a very similar kind to those of yours! Might have to invest in a few more, me thinks!

Sorry it's an s211 e class
I did a *lot* of work LED'ing my previous Mk3 Mondeo, and loved the crisp white look.

However, I haven't touched my S211 as I love the classy elegant look of the filament bulbs. The only interior lighting I'm tempted to have a go at are the ambient rings around the dome lights which have a rather sickly green tinge. I'd rather they were more towards amber or warm white.

On the outside, I'd like to have a go at fitting mirror-mounted puddle lights, which were discontinued at the facelift with the mirror design change. Because of the CAN system, I'd need to wire them into the interior roof courtesy light. This is probably one of those jobs I'll not get around to doing...

^ I have the puddle lights in the mirrors (as mines a pre facelifted)

Your right about the dome lights? I wonder if its easy just to change the bulbs in them?

Thanks

WIS and EPC don't show separate bulbs for this function. My guess is that this light is from multiple LEDs that are an integral and non-user-serviceable part of the dome light assembly. Swapping them would probably involve disassembly and de-soldering of the existing parts, then soldering in new ones. I stand to be corrected by anyone who actually knows, but that's what I'd be anticipating if I were about to start the job.

This thread suggests that the ambient rings are electroluminescent sheet. If that's the case, I really can't be bothered to replace it as it'd need new EL material in the colour I want compatible with the OEM driver; or a complete strip out and LED replacement that works with the dimming signals from the rear switches and the front instrument cluster. It's going to be a long time before that makes it to the top of my to-do list...

^ Like you

I don't want to open a can of worms, its not like the lightings bad, far from it. I just thought an easy 'mod'

ooh well move on to something else...

I bought a set of white leds for mine, put them all in, sick of them after a week and gave them to my brother. He fitted them and they looked great.

My theory is that with my black leather it made the interior look really "cold" but with his cream interior they looked fine?

After refitting the normal bulbs my black interior looked nice and warm again.
I personally don't see why anyone would want brighter lights?

Definitely a taste thing here.

I have done ALL of mine however as it's a Benz I found I had to install resistors to EACH bulb to get it to say on (yes even on interior bulbs).

If you need any resistors use 2W 150ohm if you can get hold of them or 2W 180ohm if you cant.
They are very cheap and can pick them up from Maplin. They are metal film.
