Hi Guys.

So my car developed a couple of faults over the weekend (at least I only noticed it this weekend, who knows how long it's been like this)

Before we start....I've already got it booked in to be looked at on Friday, down at PCS with Olly and Jack, and it wont be driven until then. Jack at the aforementioned establishment has given me his expert opinion over the phone after I described the symptoms, and his initial guess makes sense to me.

You lot try and guess the faults, and see if you match what Jack thinks. Then on Friday we'll compare notes and see what the final prognosis is once its been actually looked at.

The car is a CLK320 (W208) Cabrio

Fault 1
Saturday - drove from home in Kingston, Surrey to the Bicester shopping village just north of Oxford, about an hour and 10 mins. No problems. Wandered round the shops for an hour, came back to the car. Wouldnt start. Tried 3 times, each time it would tick over and sounded very strong, but just wouldn't fire up. Plenty of fuel. 4th time fired up fine, and away I went. Continued with my plans for the day, no problems.

Fault 2
Yesterday, Sunday - Was driving around with the roof and windows down, then when I was stationary at traffic lights, I noticed a rattle, sounded like a stone going round in a washing machine. Couldn't hear it with the roof and windows up. Put the car into both Neutral and Park, and the rattle was quieter, but still there. Rattle gets worse as you put the car into a forward gear or reverse. Sounds like it's coming from midway down the car effectively underneath the front seats.

Tell me what you think and we'll see how it compares with Jacks first thoughts, and then compare that to the final check on Friday.

Cheers :thumb:

1). Suspect MAS
2). Cats (1, or worse both!)

PCS will diagnose it properly though.

Ditto the above - CPS and cats are my guess, or perhaps a loose exhaust clamp/bracket?

1. Could be sooooooo many things.
2. Rattling heat shield.

Well. The general consensus is

1. CPS
2. Rattly Cats

Exactly what Jack says. Seems these are not un-common faults. I figured it might be the CPS, I've been reading a lot on here about people having problems with this, and the symptons sounded similar.
As for the rattle, I figured it'd be the gearbox, but the cats make sense.

Cheers for playing the game, boys and girls. I'll see what the actual results are on Friday.
