Hi Guys,

My parents are buying a used Lexus from a Lexus dealer. They are getting a years gurantee, just wondering if like MB there are tier's to this, and what they should be asking for?

will go to a lexus forum if no responses.

Cheers

Lexus warranties cover everything and the customer service is second to none, I'm sure they will love it.

They are very good cars indeed but parts from the dealer are not cheap (compared to MB) and neither as readily available from third parties (i.e ECP).

Hi mate,

Which model Lexus is it ? I have had a few issues with mine and I bought it brand new in 2008. There are things you need to know. Dealer service is exceptional - they can't do enough for you. They are ultra-reliable. I've had three now and never ever had a mechanical or electrical problem. However the IS250 I have has suffered from some really serious rattles.

Totally disagree. If you include service costs in the price of the parts when comparing Merc and Lexus the Merc is far more expensive. I had three services with my C-Class and they were over 600 each. My current Lexus is £550 for 3 services and they never add extras on as nothing usually goes wrong. I've never paid for extra parts.

I meant used ones. I have a V Reg IS200 and have found the parts to be more expensive compared to when I used to buy parts for the C Class. I dont know if Lexus does the over 7 year old discount scheme though.

My old IS200 was the best car i've ever owned. Never had anything go wrong with it!

Thanks guys, it's a 2001 GS300.

Apparently it is in impeccable condition, my parents have had it insepcted by a friend who is a Lexus specialist and car trader.

Excellent service from Lexus. Just had Mrs PXWs car in for a service. They picked up, dropped off, car all cleaned and polished. I mentioned that a couple of the alloys had (very small) blistering on them..and was gearing up for the battle. No such luck - car comes back with a courteous message that they have ordered 4 new alloys for it and would next Thursday be convenient for them to pick the car up again to fit them. Utterly hassle and stress free.

I find Merc service pretty good (though I know there is a mixed picture out there), especially compared to my previous experience with BMW. But I've never seen anything that comes close to Lexus. Maybe it's just me getting old, but it's a real influence on my next choice of car.

It's a Lexus.
It won't go wrong.

I agree. I've owned 2 GS300s and an IS250. However if the car rattles it can be a nightmare to fix. The GS300 should be fine though.

I think this is a "Japanese" dealer thing.......my wife's treatment by our local Honda dealer has been exemplary and has made her think Honda's are the bee knees (do bees have knees? where does that saying come from?)

Sorry to give the opposite view but I have owned two GS lexus's Or is that Lexi! ;)
One was a 01 GS 300SE bought with 2K on the clock and the other was a brand new GS430 sport.
The first one went back to Lexus for 6 months as they couldn't cure the vibration through the steering at motorway speeds. Check out the USA forums as they sell more cars there. The only shifted a few hundred of these in the UK so not a good number to obtain any useful feedback.
My Car was featured in AutoExpress three times!!!
Eventually they agreed to do me a deal on a new one after I had run up 20K in their loaner an LX300 very nice motor and gave me no trouble for 6 months!
This was arrange by the then MD of Lexus UK in a personal phone call to me. So in fairness they did do their best. :thumb:

I then opted for a new GS430 thinking I had just had a bad one, withing 15 K miles the paint had peeled off the front and the wheel bearings went on the front, and the vibration was starting to be noticeable again!

Cost me a small fortune to swap it for something else, so wasn't the happy Lexus experience everyone else talks about. Dealers gave up on both cars and I ended up dealing direct with Lexus technical department.

The GS was a great car to drive if only they had sorted it, really comfortable quiet car which felt very well built, and great engines, apart from the issues my two developed which were at the time well documented in the states.

Best to check the vibration on a smooth straight road around 65-75mph you can normally feel it through your feet ;)

Not driven the latest one, although reports have been good. :)
