Little daily driver with super fuel efficiency

Does a pure electric cut it? The Nissan Leaf is praised for its ride quality.

Too expensive at present. I may actually buy a first generation Prius as they are peanuts now, and see how they work in real life use.

Please don't Charles. Clarkson did a comparison against an M3 and the M3 won.

+ It looks crap.

And the Dacia Sandero, 2 minutes after leaving the showroom, is worth how much?

I think, if you're determined to buy a car with heroic depreciation, the best approach might be to buy it after it's depreciated and not before

I'm not buying a Dacia!

The only thing I am keen to get is fuel efficient, reliable motoring at the lowest all in cost.

I had a look at a Prius only tonight. The later ones do actually look OK and for what you want the around town economy can't be bettered...other than by pure electric.

I'd go for a 2nd generation, they look and are better than 1st Gen.

That is where I am getting to. Useful space inside too.

I have got comfortable with the battery issue too.

But how much of your time will be spent around town now that you've moved to the sticks? And even if you visit London frequently, you'll still have to get there under petrol power in a car weighed down by batteries...

Besides, I thought this car was primarily to used for cross-country shopping trips, including crossing the odd ford. Water, electricity - are you sure?!:D

I had 2 people collect large items from me and they were generally very pleased with their Prius.
The load space was impressive, but I think the hatchback is more accommodating.

AFAIK, Batteries aren't an issue.

It's hardly the sticks, its about 5 miles outside the M25. Stop start motoring is still the norm. I'll take the long run round to Waitrose to avoid the ford (or buy a Landie too).

Not quite as small as you wish Charles but the ford would be no problem. Might need a few more batteries than the Prius though.

I could use the local canal to get into London.

OK - I have the answer. It's diesel, has 4WD, is low technology and has lots of space for carrying. Very importantly, you'll never lose it in a car park or be afraid of parking dents and it has "sufficient" torque

Ladies and Gentlemen, may I present a 6.2-litre Land-Rover!

That rear door configuration will take quite some navigating with antique furniture.

I like the idea of a 6 litre diesel doing 25 mpg though..

Not down on the A2 at all but the economy of the petrol is close to my 210 I suspect, and lacks the torque of the diesel.

Caught the back end of a piece on Radio 2 about a Series 1 Land Rover with a Rolls-Royce engine being put up for auction soon.

That would be a champion Top Trump vehicle.

That would be fun, if somewhat fuel heavy.

Multivalve has been sold, so that is out of the equation. New wheels and rubber on the 210 make it much more comfortable so might leave it a bit until the new year.
