My father managed to lock himself out of his S class last night with the engine on.
He had just loaded a couple of curtain poles, when doing so he hit the hazards and then left them pushing against the ash tray. He closed the door only for the doors to lock themselves!!!
The RAC were there in under 10 mins, the nice man managed to get in (levered open the top of the door with some stuff he had and then got a metal rod in that he used to hit the window switch). Phew!
We then closed the door again (with window open) and it locked itself again. Moved the pole away from the ash tray and it stopped locking itself!
Anyway - all sorted and fixed! Strange situation though.

well done... about ten years ago a similar situation on my W123....

The AA tried every trick to get in but no chance... in the end we had to smash the quarter window...

I've said it before - an s-class is to be wafted around in luxury and comfort, not to be used as a van  ;).

So what was causing the doors to lock and is the frame of the door bent now? (where the RAC guy inserted the pole?)

Frame fine - only pulled open a smidgen to allow a small rod to go in. Bent itself back to shape!
Think the pole pushing against the ash tray is what was doing it - I assume the ash tray has a powered motor (or it was due to hazards).

He could have done BUT why did it lock itself again in front of me!

well I have just been down to mine and tried it, the button will not push down on mine.

In the menu you have the options to turn the auto locking feature off if you wish and you could have a button on the dash.

On the W220 the central locking button is right next to the hazard light button. Very likely this button was pushed by the curtain poles.

And this was then curtains for the owner, an open and shut case :(
