Looking to buy another car......

I’ve just got a BMW 535d f11 and have to say I’m impressed with the whole thing. My friend had a 520d which was very good too, and to be fair had all the power you reasonably need, along with better mpg. I can confirm that in se spec with 19 inch wheels the car is very comfortable indeed.

We also have a Discovery 4 with the 3.0sdv6, and I have to say engine wise it is excellent, and available in the Jag. It sounds good, goes very well and has proven reliable so far.

Where the British made cars fall down when compared to the bmw is the interior, not nearly as polished.

You’d be happy with either I reckon, not sure Jaguar reliability is as bad as it’s rumoured if our Land Rover is anything to go by.

Earlier Jag S-types had suspect electro's, but the XJ's were always pretty good, but as always on any modernish car they are full of electrons so good batteries are ESSENTIAL.

XF's are essentially Fords, so their electronics are good.

Our runabout is a 2002 S Type that’s never let us down but they are so battery dependant. I suspect many of them are scrapped because people think the electrical systems are shot when in reality the battery isn’t fully charged.

My 2008 XF was a electronic nightmare kept it for 4 months
I had to get rid of my 2011 3.0D XF after less than a year from new. It had a major problem with noise attenuation which Jaaaag refused to rectify but admitted it was a problem that affected 25% of cars. It drove me mad as it produced a deep resonance between 20 and 50 mph - the problem was caused by the fuel pipes vibrating against the bulkhead and so was a major job to rectify. I suggest you have an extended test drive in the Xf to see if it suffers from it. 3 Jag technicians admitted it was a relatively regular complaint but because of the cost, Jag's response was it was part of the character of the car !!!

I guess it's like any car - you can be unlucky...

Fuel pipes vibrating against the main bulkhead and they couldn't solve it ??????? What a crap garage.....

Main dealer - the Jag forum I was using at the time had loads of nationwide posts about the problem. If I remember correctly, to rectify it the engine had to come out and the pipes re-routed as they couldn’t just be refixed where they were.
The dealer was crap - hilariously, I had a service and within 1k the service notice came up and I called Service Reception (Ipswich). I said it looked like they didn’t reset the service indicator - the pompous twit told me that certainly could not be the case, it must be my driving style. I insisted they collected the car as they caused the problem, he rang me to say the car was being delivered and sheepishly said having completed another service they realised the service indicator had not been reset - no charge for the service Sir !
Worse new car I have ever had and they have included BL Metro’s (company cars I must add).

Electrics were fine on mine other than the battery low warning popping up on the screen if u dare run anything without the engine running. Find the right spec ie sports seats 20 inch Volans and subtle body kit. Took me 12 months to find that spec and only sold on cus one of the turbos went pop, great car.

That looks like the one I drove Lee!

Same wheels and colour - lovely looking thing.
