Losing power over time..

And whats more frustrating is that the car isn't displaying any obvious symptoms. Its basically just feeling weaker and weaker everytime i need to use the 'power', and now its reached a stage where its just starting to annoy me.

I've had that same MAF for 27,000 miles, but its not running a rough idle or doing anything erratic.

I have no idea where to start!

I remember same fault on my old td5 disco and was the map (manifold absolute pressure) sensor in the inlet manifold measures boost pressure and inlet air charge temperature.

As yours is a K im assuming you have a similiar sensor.

Cost £40ish .

Just lost power gradually over a few weeks until i couldnt stand it any more:D

All I would suggest is usual plugs, leads etc as mine although it felt quick(ish ) is alot more sprightly and has more oomph since changing them all (and coil packs) but your prob may not be the same....

....Unless you have just got "used" to the feel of the way your car responds. Try not driving for a few days then see if its how it used to be :D

I once owned an astra convertible that lost power and would not rev over 4000rpm. Turned out to be the cat which had broken up and blocked the outlet.

I did have 2 fault codes a while back which read:

006 - Intake air temperature sensor B17 short circuit.

050 - Idle self adaptation too lean.

But otherwise nothing. I know its weak because its overwhelmingly weak, its not just a slight feeling, its just very very weak and not pulling. It'll happily pull to its rev limit but there's no torque at all.

In terms of components i've replaced quite a long list of things on this car in the last 2 years i've had it for the standard MB stuff. Its so annoying, because its hard to diagnose something that doesn't present itself as an obvious problem.... argh

Is there any way of telling if the coil packs are worn?

Surely code 006 is the map sensor as i said?

The one in the manifold measures the boost pressure and the incoming air temperature, allowing the ecu to chuck in the correct amount of fuel.
Commonish fault on the trucks at work also as said very common low power problem on td5 discoverys, mine ate 2 in the 4 years i owned it.

Map = manifold absolute pressure sensor

Maf = mass air flow , also called air flow meter

I measure to pins on my old disco one to find the sensor thought the air was a lot hotter than it should have been hence it cut back on the fuel to protect the motor, maybe worth a google for similiar info on yours?

I changed one of them (lambda) today on a bora and there was no end left just the threaded bit, fault said sensor 2 open circuit:D

it could be lamba sensor as i had a bmw which lost all power and at times struggled to hold the speed at slight inclines

Supercharger kicks in... everything works, it just doesn't feel as light and jumpy as normal

to clarify, for a spectator who's never been in it before they'd say its fairly quick. but of course because its my car i know that something is holding it back.

Wont be lambda as they dont effect the cars running until engine up to temperature, or more precisely cat up to temp.

Called open loop, when cats up to temp sensors kick in called closed loop do a google.

i was not really hands on with that car but did have sensor changed as was fine after

but i tend to leave the car running on the drive so it was upto temp befor i set off

Ok solved it... MAF + Air temperature sensor seemed to fix it.
