This hasn't joined my shortlist, but it is a lovely looking car; good colour combo, lovely alloys.

I think the price is very optimistic, an 8 year old V8 (old engine), no COMAND. I just checked out Glass's guide on the trade value of this car:
Part-exchange Price: assuming its an Avantgarde.

Excellent condition:
£6970
Average condition:
£6330
Below average condition:
£5580

So I would have thought that the trader paid well below bottom book; say £5K - so he wants to make a £4K profit or so .... probably a little greedy.

No heated seats (personally I think a must in a soft top) or Xenons, but it does have bose.

Bloody hell , prices have come down on those ....

320 CLK cabrios were £6.5k a few months back .... are you sure you're looking at the cabrio and not coupe prices ?

Those are late model wheels ( W209 ) they were never fitted to the W208 , where have the original wheels gone ? Looks a bit 'stilty' too ....

That loooks Very nice,

The sound from the V8 with the roof down would be great. Does seem Pricey Compared to tin top new shape V8 models though.

Dark blue roof would look nice but the black probably wears better.

Wow , prices have really come down.

I gave £6k for mine about 5 months ago , and that's a coupe.

Havent you noticed Howard? it has the infamous lip spoiler! :D :D :D

Looks odd being that far back, only way to fit it I guess + I would look better on the coupe as it doesnt have the highlevel brakelight on the lip aswell.

recon they still hold their cash though - my old man buys direct from Merc of Boston so is pretty on the ball with prices and has just sold a mint 320 clk Cabriolet x reg 64k with parktronic (no Comand, heated seats or memory seats) for £9995 with no px.
Not sure what the 430 goes for without checking an upto date Glass guide, but i have Dec's with me and the car in the link books at

£7850 and retails at £9950 with the adjustment for it having done 60k

Hi Lee ,

Why's Peter quoting £6.6k in his post then ?

Not sure? like i say i've not got Jan's Glass's guide with me, but cant see prices have dropped that much in a month?
is Peter's price from Glass's or Cap?

just texted the old man and he said he doubts he could get one as cheap as that and like i say he is the main buyer of all Boston's Mercedes PX's that they would not retail.

Price does seem right for a garage - on saying that though i have seen them going for low amounts on e bay.

Its like all things, there are some cheap nasty cars out there, some over priced tat and some real bargains.

am happy with mine and will probably just let the old fella retail it when i come to change.

I think the guides are just that in this climate guides.....

Nothing is selling a big V8 merc which is 8 yrs old is probably not high on too many peoples list.

Real world cars for sale are a better guide...

I asked the trader about that CLK430 Cab. He is a business associate of Hartwells Jaguar in Bristol, they have been marketing it for him as well, but at a lower price of £8999. His words were...that is 'the asking price' which indicates that there is negotiation room. It does look lovely and the mileage is sensible and low, it has a full history, however, as has been pointed out it has no COMAND, no xenons and no heated seats. I love the alloys. The plate does not come with it.

There is also another lovely looking 2002 black CLK430 Cab with 75000 on Top Marques for £8999.

Changing the subject subtlely, I had a call last night at 2235, someone has made me a sensible offer for my Jag and is coming to view at the weekend! Looks like CLK ownership may have taken a step closer!

So what's happened to the hunt for a W208 CLK 55 AMG?
Were they proving too hard to find at the right price/condition?

No I haven't given up, in fact I will hopefully be off to look at (and drive) a couple this weekend, including the blue one. It was just that the Silver 430 Cab caught my eye, it looks great and it is a V8 so it fuflils the important part of the brief!

I did notice that the 430 V8 is less economical than both the AMG 5.4 and the CLK500 V8.

Figures in Litres/100km

430 Urban 16.5 Extra Urban 8.5 Overall 11.4

55 Urban 17.1 Extra Urban 8.5 Overall 11.7

Real world ? No difference at all ... i guarantee that you'll use more fuel in the AMG than the 430 ;)

The owners manual does have a note with regards to the 430 figures that reads :

Final values were not available at the time of going to print . The technical data and filling capacities stated here are provisional and in some cases , calculated values.

Personally i get just over 30 mpg on a run , and about 23 about town ....

That's not driving Miss Daisy either ;)

The owner of the the black one I mentioned above, sorry I can't get an link, is about to sell it for £6500 having advertised for £8999! He said it has a problem with the roof opening and he just wants shut of it now ! It looks a decent car, 02 plate as well.

Those wheels look like CLS alloys.
