Now you may or may not be aware of the follwing, but I thought it worth mentioning.
Fitting an after market air filter can seriously wreck the maf sensor as it has mine. The oil that you use to charge the filter finds its way to the maf sensor, coats it in residue, and hey presto! Naffed Maf.
I have tried cleaning the maf with soap and water in the hope that this will cure the running probs. Fingers crossed.

Solvent cleaning is the only effective method IMHO since any detergent is only going to leave a different film on the element. You may need a new sensor element-a lot less expensive than the whole unit. lots of posts on this subject on the forum. sorry you had to learn the hard way.

trouble is the maf sensor i have is a siemansand i think its a sealed unti as there are no visible screws to remove the sensor. i have changed the air filter back to a standard paper one and used cotton buds and fairy to clean the actual sensor itself. if this doesnt work I will try some mild solvent and failing that it looks like a complete unit
