Max Mosley to retire!

I believe Max's job is unpaid

Nick Froome

Not sure what thats got to do with anything but you are quite right it is unpaid, however it comes with an unlimited expense account of which alledgedly the said person spends €430,000 per year. I'd love to see his expenses claim, just how dear are gimp masks and whips these days? Nice work if you can get it

I was quite saddened last night when I watched the news.

I can't help feeling that the teams have squandered an excellent opportunity to stiff it to Max/FIA and Bernie, and bring something back to the sport, and the punters in particular. This was a capitulation if ever I saw one.

I would bet some money that, while in public Bernie has been extremely non-committal, behind the scenes he has been wielding some very big sticks indeed. It is how all dictators operate. The result? Order restored. It's good for him, good for the FIA. Bad for the teams, and definitely bad for the paying public.

I think I'll keep away thanks.

FOTA will run their own GP, this just buys time. the breakaway idea wont hide nor will it go away. :thumb: But like you I was saddened too.

I hate Eccy and Moseley. They do no good for the sport whatsoever.

I think you are not reading this situation the same way I am.

The head of Ferrari attended the news conference when Herr Mouse-Ley stated he was not standing for re-election... The head of Ferrari witnessed this obscene character make some half hearted, ambigious statement about 'trying' to cap level to a similar standard to those of the 1990's!! In other words NOTHING..... has beed agreed regarding ANY capping. Ferrari and the other manufacturers had won a convincing victory.

Herr Mouse-ley craves media attention...he was given his 5 mionutes of waffle and now he has already been replacved regarding any and all negotiations with Formula 1... he has gone

That is my take and Eccles-cake was their because he pulls ALL the strings regarding any wheeler dealing on behalf of formula 1.

Now how do we get rid of those double diffusers?:D They are a brilliant piece of engineering but are not allowing the following cars to get close.

That's not quite how I read it. He was specifically asked whether he was really going to go this time - not like last time? His response was along the lines of 'I will go, as long as the teams all do as they are told - otherwise...'

He's done it before...

Maybe the answer is to get rid of all the establishment (Mosley and Ecclestone) Get the delegates to the FIA to nominate a team player not a dictator, get rid of Ecclestone contracts for the races, bring back the good tracks, lose the bad ones, lower entrance prices and make the bl**dy cars overtake on the track not in the pits.Oh and no secret deals with Ferrari or any other teams, and I think that will do for now

Agreed on that one!

I went to an Autosport show a couple of years or so ago, and was staggered by the comparison between what was then a current F1 car - Alonso's Championship-winning Renault - and a McLaren MP4/8 from '88 or '89. They were sat right next to each other in an enclosure, and the difference could not have been more marked. The MP4/8 was utter poetry at the side of the butt-ugly Renault, which was a complete mess of angles, curves, silly little bits of plastic stuck on at every opportunity - it was utterly ghastly. The McLaren was so pure and clean, lithe even. So much for 'progress'.

God, how I miss those days.

A good mate of mine used to go to Brands in the late '80s and would go to watch free practice and qualifying up at Dingle Dell. Watching Senna in the MP4/8 yomping across the old Dingle Dell chicane in the early morning with the contrails streaming off the rear wing plates was an experience bordering on the spiritual. I wish I had been there.

Tonysurf - amen to that!

You should learn to trust your Uncle Glojo :)

Forgive me for highlighting the last section but I hope it clarifies my points

Press Release

World Motor Sport Council

24/06/2009

The World Motor Sport Council met in Paris on 24 June 2009. The following decisions were taken:

FORMULA ONE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

All currently competing teams have committed to the FIA Formula One World Championship.

There will be no alternative series or championship and the rules for 2010 onwards will be the 2009 regulations as well as further regulations agreed prior to 29 April 2009.

As part of this agreement, the teams will, within two years, reduce the costs of competing in the championship to the level of the early 1990s. The manufacturer teams have agreed to assist the new entries for 2010 by providing technical assistance.

The manufacturer teams have further agreed to the permanent and continuing role of the FIA as the sport’s governing body. They have also committed to the commercial arrangements for the FIA Formula One World Championship until 2012 and have agreed to renegotiate and extend this contract before the end of that period.
