I guys thinking of selling my Merc! Long story! Now I'm after a 4x4 that don't cost the earth to run.
So far I'm thinking these are my options
Volvo XC90
Honda CR-V
I'm gonna have about £9500 to spend but most of all it's got to look nice as I'm only 28 , can't afford a massive engine :-(
Any ideas?

Sorry to hear this. Was your C-Class costing the earth?
wasn't costing the earth just few problems with it and I need a better boot for the dogs and something that can get around in snow lol

Id love a merc 4x4 but I just think big risk if anything goes wrong on it so need to be sensible lol

Ah, I see.
Sorry to hear you will be parting with the Mercedes.

I've got a Volvo XC90 (MY 2004), most are 2.4l D5's, from 2006 onwards they were 183bhp rather than the 163bhp on the older models. I find 163 fine but wish I had the extra. It's a great car and would recommend them to anyone.

me 2 , just not very practical :-( I just can't decide which is a nice 4x4

There are a few guys on here with good experience with 4x4's.
I'm sure they'll help you out soon.

This 6x6 G63 AMG should see you right in the snow...
Very practical indeed... :D

Hahaha nice choice lol

R class MB? 4 matic 4 wheel drive, short wheelbase version is not too much of a tank (we suffer an XC90 used for the school run, completely blocks our cul de sac when the mother "parks" it!) and as it's not a popular model, second hand prices are low!

Ugly.

bear in mind that a 2WD car with winter tyres in snow will be better than a 4wd car with summer tyres in snow. A much debated point but one that the laws of physics cannot argue with.

Hand grenade!!!

So just get an E class or C class estate and fit all season tyres such as the Vredestein Quatrac3 or Nokian All Weather Plus..........

Don't restrict your choice by a minor requirement that can be overcome with £500 of tyres..........

The LWB R Class looks bloody enormous - I thought I was being overtaken by a single decker bus, would not like to park one at the supermarket. However, there is a SWB version, it's an estate with room for dogs, has 4WD - and looks a damned sight better than an XC90!! Plus, of course, it's a Mercedes!!

We are considering one or an extra long viano to replace our 5.1m long VW T4 Caravelle which my wife drives every day. Very easy!

have you looked at the nissan qashqai...lots have panoramic roofs for the dogs to look out of!

An xc90 are just as expensive as a range rover to run so I'd forget that choice if your budget is tighter. I used to take them home from work and it was worse on fuel than my td6. Repair bills are high too. Servicing isn't cheap. An average drive and a poor 4x4 system. They look ok though!
