MB as an act of goodwill agreed to repair rust which appeared under the rear window in the SL (03 model). I left the car at their approved body workshop at 8am and was told the car would be ready the following day at closing time and that they would phone me. I asked the bodyshop not to fit the new rubber seal (as I did not trust them to fit it properly). By mid-afternoon on Day 3, when I had not heard from the bodyshop, I phoned and was told car was ready. On picking up the car, I discovered (1) a side panel was broken (2) the lip on which the seal sits was bent (3) the sealant had not been applied evenly (4) the sealant had been applied over the part of the lip on which the double sided tape was to be fixed (5) the car had been washed but because the seal was not fitted, the boot was full of water and (6) the interior of the boot was covered in sealant. After some angry words, all my complaints were accepted and it was agreed they would sort everything out. The car was left in for another day and on collection they had done what they said. I was given a new side panel and told to come back when I fitted the new seal. After fitting the seal, I decided to fit the side panel -only to discover they had glued the broken panel in the hope, I suppose, of covering up the damage. It took me over a hour to remove the glue and slide the new panel into place. Can anyone tell me how does such an outfit get MB approval? Is there any way I can get MB to review their approval?

In line with their normal practice, MB will call you within a week or so of the repair to ask how things went and ask you to rate (0-10) the various stages and aspects of your repair experience.

Have the sermon ready. ;)
