MB Milton Keynes - thumbs down today...

When you've made your money ( the first million is the hardest ), and you can afford to wear jeans all the time:D

Judge a book by the cover at your peril!

Very true, when was the last time you say Steve Jobs, Bill Gates or Branson in a suit!

Amazing? A depressing reality to my mind, that people judge others on appearance and the kind of credit card they have. Sad really, but it's a superficial world..

Quite.

Personally, I prefer a bit of space if entering any "browsing" area for non-urgent purchases, and am happy to ask for help when I'm ready.

I remember seeing Michael Caine being interviewed a while back, and he talked about the time he first realised he could afford a Rolls Royce, and went to buy one, before he was readily recognised. I found the same story on Google:
Michael Caine:
"It was a bit naughty on my part, actually, because I went very scruffy on a Saturday morning. I had a piece of paper, like a shopping list, and I brought the paper out in front of the guy (at the Rolls dealership) and it said “Razor blades, toothpaste, Rolls-Royce, eggs…” (laughs) And I said ‘Oh yeah, Rolls-Royce. How much is that one?” He said “How many do you want?” (laughs) I said ‘I only want one. Are you usually this rude to people who come to buy Rolls-Royces?’ He said “Get out!” So I said ‘I’ll tell you what, I’m going to call you next week, and I’m going to drive by here in a Rolls-Royce I’ve bought somewhere else and I’m going to give you a wave, okay?’ He said “Get out!” (laughs) And that’s what I did. I drove by and I gave him a very particular wave."

I love the story, but it also equates to Q car mentality!

I'm the same with regard to browsing, whatever the context - I hate it when people come up to me to ask if I need help; I just want them to be ready to assist me when I request it.

With regard to the Michael Caine story, you have to remember he's a raconteur, and raconteurs have a tendency to embellish for comic effect. Even if his account is an accurate reflection of what happened, it demonstrates a decidedly déclassé approach on Caine's part, which is odd for someone who was actually heading in the other direction. I just can't identify with this sociopathic notion of having to stick two fingers up at people you feel have slighted you in some way, especially if you helped to invite that slight in the first place.

I think people prefer dealing with one person for everything, I'm never sure why dealers love having business managers so much.
This person certainly prefers dealing with the person who has the authority to do a deal. I absolutely hate the "I need to run that past my Business Manager" routine.

I agree. The funny thing is, when I saw the interview on domestic tv, he said at the time he couldn't even drive, and stood up in the back of a chauffeur driven convertible as they drove past. My excerpt above was from a much more recent Hollywood interview!

I was offered a job at an MB dealer inside M25 recently but turned it down before the pay is so unbelievable crap, no wonder the sales guys don't want to be there. .

Yet some of them act as if they're making £250K/yr.

I remember an article about BMW where the UK MD was complaining how difficult it was to train dealership sales staff as a third of them leave every year - so on average the dealership has a complete new staff every 3 years.

Remember going into a shop in London once (can't recall which - a small relatively posh one) and I was dressed a bit scruffy. Saleswoman was curt and almost rude when I arrived at the counter and went through the motions with a grim look on her face. When she told me the price I handed her my credit card (a fairly select one at the time) and her attitude changed immediately - she offered to wrap it, her tone of voice changed completely and she came round the counter to hand me the bag before wishing me good day! Amazing.

Pretty Woman.... :D
OK, my bad, sorry, I read through the thread fairly quickly and it just came across as a bash salespeople thread. It's a long time since I was on the sales floor by the way, but it struck me as starting to become another all HATO's have red horns, eat iron filings for breakfast, are miserable and only exist to spoil our fun thread :) Anyway, I apologise for jumping the gun.

Perhaps it's because of the fairly low remuneration packages that people are employed with little aptitude for the job? The sales staff at MB Swindon treated me courteously and professionally despite the fact I was wearing jeans and hoodie :) Their service staff are exemplary. Perhaps there is the key... everyone should deal with MB Swindon? Please say I sent you when you call in because I get £500 of goodies for every customer I recommend :)

Agree totally about MB Swindon - :thumb: Is this £500 only for you...:D
