MB R107 450 SLC - First ever restoration project! Help!

Hang on a minute guys. Here's a new forum member come on here to ask specific advice and, so far, most of what he gets is 'that's not right!' and 'you could do better with this.....'.

I know we like to yak on but this must be offputting for anyone new. :dk:

The only thing off putting is the potential cost of getting that car back on the road!

I was trying to be helpful and more importantly realistic! Lets face it, an SL or SLC without and MOT thats been standing for ages is going to be a money pit, which will probably ending up costing thousands and as the OP says he doesnt want to spend loads of money!

When I joined this forum and got my SL600 everyone said hope its a good one for your sake, your a brave man taking on a 15 year old V12 etc...

And guess what? They were right!

All going well, the car might not be that bad - remember it had a shedload of work carried out on it so some TLC in the right areas could be all that's needed.

... or not.

The OP is willing to take a gamble - what has he to lose other than as much money as he is willing to risk ?

My initial scepticism was the manner in which it was obtained - it was the first I'd heard of this route.

Well if it's only cost him £30.00 so far, he hasn't really got much to lose.

New battery, oil change and an MOT would be a good start. Probably about £100 worth.

I'm sure if he gets it MOTd it'd be worth more than the £130 that it cost, and if it fails miserably he'd get more than that back as a project/breaker for someone.

Does sound a bit fishy about the whole 'taking someone elses car' thing though. I can't/won't comment on that as I am not familiar with the process, does seem a bit odd for someone to have left it though - is there absolutely no way of tracing who it belongs to?

Will

Good shout from Derek re the hoist :thumb:

my webpage here may also help you - pics tell a 1000 words etc.

If you come to one of the scottish meets in the future you can take a good look at 3 R107 SLs, weather permitting! :D

good luck with the restoration - and i look forward to the pictures.
