Hi All just purchased a 320 CLS fab car but problem with steering...steering wheel does not self centralise after turns and seems heavy,,,...all ball joints checked ok with no wear could this be the hydraulic steering pump or steering rack (hydraulic model) fault.:dk:

Any answers greatly appreciated!!

Thanks

Sounds like the parameter steering isn't working properly. Need dealer or independent garage with Mercedes STAR diagnostic to check it. Could be a sensor on the steering rack.

Poor self-centering appears to be a feature of many Mercedes cars due to the high levels of positive caster that these cars are designed with. It apparently helps high speed straight line stability but this is at the expense of self-centering.

You might also want to get your wheel alignment checked but beware it may be an expensive job if the car needs camber bolts fitting. Probably best left to a Mercedes dealer if you want it done right first time.
