i have told them they do need to get a better presentation with front and back showing the bumpers and the front seats etc

new tyres on the car over 9 months ago

mistake highest offer thus far 6250 as where is with the plate no mot

i told them to mot and take off the plate to sell the car as project

Without hijacking the thread, I'm very puzzled about what people are willing to pay for a private plate.

The American plate system is very different to that in the UK.

In the UK, standard plates related to the age of the vehicle. We also have one issuing body and plate pool for the entire country, in the US they are issued per state. Personalised plates still have to confirm to UK plate formats, whereas I believe in the US there is a lot more freedom.

The DVLA also set minimum prices when new plates are released into circulation, so there's a bit of a price-fixing monopoly there too.

The car looks like a dog to me. As for the number plate...

I just don't get it. Looking for eight grand with crap photos and wouldn't even wash, clean or polish the car. And offering to put an MOT on it after it's sold is just is laughable.

Two great looking cars you have there. I'm really smitten with the SLC, wouldn't mind the 6.9 either. :thumb:

I understand (I moved to the US from London in 2000), but I think I would prefer to let people know that I drive a 10 year old Mercedes over them thinking that I am willing to spend $50k on a number plate :)

nice 500 slc btw if the plate is the indicator

Thanks, that car is sold but I still have an inca red 450SLC 5.0 that needs rebuilding.

3 distinct categories come to mind.

Anyone worried about showing the age of their car won't be spending big - that's the preserve of the £99 NI plate.

Otherwise it's conspicuous consumption and look-at-me vanity. That's fine by me, unless it's in a ****y font, misspaced or shotgunned with screw caps to try and spell something if you squint at it after a bottle and a half of antifreeze.

The last option is the family heirloom - I've inherited two plates over the years, and they have no meaning to anyone else. Given the vehicles they're were on, they're not fooling anyone on the age either.

due your comments i got them to pull it out wash it and take better pics looking better now if u need more ping them a text

My 300TE 4-Matic (which now liver Kent) is on NI Plates. The car was ordered new from Mercedes Germany and delivered to NI and straight onto these plates.

I rather like them and see them as part of the car, which is now 30 years old. So they are staying with he car.

They're part of the car's history though.

Or are you secretly trying to convince everyone it's a brand new Mercedes? Shiny fresh paint? Age concealing plates? We see through your game :D

Dinoy, tell them not to be so stupid. The plate's worth nowhere near what they claim to think it is. Tell them to put an MoT on the car, then advertise it again. Even better, tell them to put it up for auction with no reserve - that will show what it's actually worth.

I've learned sometime ago to not put a value on someone else' property and I have no idea what UK prices are. I do have some knowledge of what these cars are selling for in Europe because it seems like every car I sell here in the US gets shipped back to Europe.

As you had indicated, your friends really need to make a better effort to represent it by giving it a clean and taking more detailed pictures. Cornwall is kind of a trek for anyone not living in Cornwall so the pictures will drive interest in it.

If it does not sell quickly, 6250 is probably all the money on it unless you do something different. One option is to sell the plate separately and the wheels, steering wheel etc.

Those aftermarket performance parts sell well on their own to performance minded enthusiasts, they don't add value to the car as collectors prefer originality.

I also have a 500SL with the 17" AMG (OZ) 3pc wheels. The wheels seem to have appreciated much faster than the car itself so if I ever decide to sell, I'll probably put the original wheels back on the car and list these on ebay.

Again, good luck with your sale.

A 'cherished UK plate' on a car without an MOT cannot be moved, legally, so it is an incentive not often worth the candle. There were ways, however...

Happy to take £5K for my plate, 134 TFC.

It 'spells' BATFC, which is obvs. BATFINK, the cartoon 1970's bat who professed to have wings "like a shield of steel" (so suiting AMG 'hand made' lumps as well) and thus looks much better than pretending to have been in the SAS.
(Who Dares, wins, Rodney!)

BATFINK, of course. Silly me being a bit slow to spot it. Five gand actually seems cheap. :D:thumb:

I had LB52 ERV, which if you were a Hungarian called Laszlo Benedek Szerv, would be a valuable private plate.

If you weren't, of course, it was just another plate of little value. Like KVG 545...

no plates with NNN AAA where N is numeric where issued in the mid 50s however the other way AAA NNN is more valuable since it is from the 30s the fact 545 reas SAS 5 = S 4 = A in no plate speak reason mention KVG SOS (lookalike) as that would need 505. kavanagh is the largest recover service in the uk hence the mention in the ad.

as its value is subject firstly advertised wrong time of the year, if they need the money or not. as for mot this was my first point, as this will give the buyer an option to buy the car without the plate.

the car looks better than most the owners own a castle in cornwall and do not use the car much hence low mileage.

i think next month advertisement will be with mot or they need to accept an offer starting 6. this was made by a dealer so they know its value the highest i seen 15-22k for 500 sl no back seats n not aircon.

it is a rare model nice colour somebody might come and offer 6.5k n take a bargain i n my view
