Mercedes E63 Amg

Sometimes, this forum is very bad for ones bank balance and sanity.

I caught myself looking at late E63s again the other day and thinking about remaps and downpipes.

But I don't want one...!

...so why am I looking.

I fought these feelings for a while , but in the end, I realised I was just short changing myself, jumping from one car to another to find Automobile Mecca.......and now....I hold my head high.... I have arrived.

There is something about lots of hp and lots and lots of torque, just the right amount of noise, that makes a mapped/piped 5.5 a bit special. If you could bottle the feeling that flooring the throttle from low speed in 3rd gear gives then you'd be rich.

None of this is helping, you do know that don't you...

I have been looking at the GT market since December and it's clear to me what I would need to spend to get the car I want.

Value for money? I'm not so sure. I really wished I liked the Quattroporte.

I'm looking at 55 big ones to buy the 13 plate car I want.

Insurance and tyres OK - and depreciation wont be too bad although I will be loading 6000 miles onto it each year so I will take a hit.

The servicing is interesting (£1500 2 years, £2500 4 years etc.) and that's before I factor in repairs at £100 per hour. Brakes are about the same.

I think it will be too rich and when I can pick up a 64 plate E63 for mid 30s, I do find myself questioning WTF I am doing.

That's before the quirks, which my old E55 had, but the Italians do quirky better than the Germans and I imagine they will drive me mad long before the novelty wears off - I pretended I could live with them on the E55 because I loved the car so much, but they did annoy the f out of me.

Then there is practicality - the GT can't have a spare so it needs low-loading.

As you can tell - I've put a lot of thought into things in the last 3 months!

lol you're definitely doing your due diligence. :D

Have you actually tried a mapped/piped 5.5? You're welcome to have a spin in mine.

Where abouts are you ?
Wouldn't mind ' comparing ' to stock ...

Did I mention fitting in it?

That's an issue too. The seat doesn't go back far enough in the GT so my right leg has a permanent arch - which is not comfortable for me as I get lower back pain and a sore knee.

So weather for actually buying one of these is looking decidedly stormy at best.

That would be useful, cheers! :thumb:

Will PM about that.

Hi mate.

I think I remember you and your car.

If I remember rightly, were you the chap who ended up on the rolling road after exhaust mods? You had to get off promptly.

I've met loads of people over the last few years. MSLP is more like a social club sometimes... :D

Good luck with the sale - it's a shame you have to but needs must sometimes. Selling for the reasons you are is admirable.

I don't regret selling mine (went in August last year) but I do miss some of the aspects.

I bought a CL500 and whilst it is a great car, I'm not certain it the right car for me so now considering looking into E63s.

We shall see...

Cheers!

You will just get one ...
