Hi Guys
Its been a long long time since I have been on here, But work has been crazy. Have been in europe for private clients and prepping a couple for salon prive which you can imagine are never ending. Also with the good weather on its way and big shows, everyone is wanting correction. Anyway, this job was from quite some time ago for a mbclub.co.uk member.
The guy has always had his cars maintained by me, but SL55 has never had correction. The SL55 in question is generally a very tidy one, but with the wheels tired and the paint just quite upto par. It was well worth the effort.
After discussing with the owner, The car was given a little mini overhaul to match its tired exterior with its perfect insides
The car was work on at our units as the owner is short on garage space, plus the car could be up on our ramp wheel the wheels were being refurbished.
The car was given the usaul decontamination treatments in this order:
All door shuts dgreased, scrubbed and rinsed.
Lower half of car degreased, left to dwell then thoroughly jet washed.
Car was treated to a full snowfoam bath, and rinsed.
Wash using 2BM using swissvax car bath and rinsed.
Car was brought in for drying with 70/30 towels.
Lower half was treated to tardis to remove tar.
Car was then clayed with gentle grey and megs last touch.
Car was given a thorough IPA wipedown to remove clay sling and silicone's from the paint.
Car was then put on the scissor ramp.
Wheels were removed for refurb.
This then brings us upto speed with the correction process. As we all know the SL paint was hard as vag paint tends to be. So the correction process was as follows:
Compounding completed with Lake Country wool pad with Megs 105.
Polishing completed with Lake country yellow polishing pad with scholl concepts s17.
Refinement completed with lake country red finishing pad with 3m ultrafina.
Here are some pictures of the correction stage.
This left the car looking like this:
Once this was complete it was onto the wheels. The wheels where split up, diamond turn, from fascia painted in genuine AMG Finished as shown:
They were then put back together and tyres re-mounted. They were then given a thorough IPA wipedown and protected with G-Techniq C5 Crystal glass coat.
The exhaust tips were then cleaned with wire wool and 105 then polished with optimum metal polish. Door shuts were polished and sealed with werstatt acrylic prime strong. Paintwork was dressed in wolfgang paint sealant and then finished in 3 coats of wolfgang fusion Carnauba wax with 8 hours curing time between coats. Glass was Polished with supernatural glass polish and rubber seals fed with swissvax seal feed. Inside arches were dressed with bare bones and tyres were dressed with swissvax pneu.
It was then to move into the interior. All plastics were degreassed cleaned and protected with swissvax matte. The leather was steam cleaned, scrubbed with swissvax leather cleaner and a horse hair brush. Leather was then fed with swissvax leather milk. Inside glass was cleaned with meg's glass cleaner and car was vacuumed to a detailed level.
Once this was completed the car was wipedown with 2 coats of zaino z-8 and the wheels were all torqued up to factory requirement with my shiney new bluepoint torque wrench
