Mercedes W114 250 Coupe - help!

That will be the ropey bit as I would have run out of money by then...

Power steering arrangements pretty much all in, this is the reservoir (the significance of the yellow wingnut is for another time). Visible in the background the new adjustable fuel pressure regulator.

Things definitely begining to take shape now Charles. :thumb: Looks like a stunning renovation. For those new to your thread it might be useful to take a look at the intial posts to see exactly what you started from. I am waiting expectantly to see details of the completed MegaSquirt conversion. ;)

Another coat of Schutz on the fuel tank, then the underside will be ready for the coat of Waxoyl. John Weller at Project Shop is doing a fantastic job on the car, next week the work on the loom (most of which Megasquirt related) will commence, fuel system should be finished off and we are going to turn the engine over on the starter motor to check compression.

One wrinkle, the original alternator from the car is quite poor, but the replacement from a later coupe has completely different plugs - the reason being that in the two years between the two the alternator has a built in voltage regulator fitted. So the old loom needs a bit of adjustment.

A comment John made yesterday - the manuals (really helpfully sent on by Grober from a retired Benz technician) are fantastic except for only one thing - they all show LHD pics. For the power steering piping arrangements much has been left to experience and informed guesswork!

This still remains my all time favourite thread here. Whilst wanting to see the finished product I am enjoying "getting there" in installments.

I think the car deserves it very own meet when ready? My 124 should be ready at around the same time. We could possibly combine the two?

Happy to do something at my place although space may be somewhat limited to around 15 > 20 cars max.

Having originally (and obviously very optimistically) planned a Scotland tour for this weekend and week coming up I'm going to hold off even thinking about anything until every part of the car is in, fitted and working perfectly.

Something of which Colin Chapman would not be proud. Dynamat added to one of the coupe doors today (yes they will be going on this week). This door swallowed up 2 sheets of Dynamat Superlite. Each sheet weighs 1kg. Enough remains to do the other door and the small space remaining inside the rear o/s panel. With two packs of 12 sheets gone into the car (quite a lot of money too), I've added 24kg to the weight of the car. Is there such a thing as the Chapman diet for the potential driver?

Well, at least you won't hear ACBC spinning in his grave. Given he went to said grave with the nickname Chunky - I don't think you're going to find diet inspiration there.
You're right to get the car as you want it though.

Dave at Project Shop was commenting the other day about how much heavier the car was getting to push each day. I think mounting drive shafts etc does add to the effort, but I estimate there is still about 200+ lbs to go on the car, so I'm hoping the stance will be just right at the end of it all.

'Simplify and add lightness'. Your house will be the beneficiary of ACBC's ethos.

It must be said the bed in my guest room could certainly do with some added lightness. It has been groaning under the weight of doors, wings and glass for a long long time. I think I heard a sigh of relief this morning when the second door was dynamat lined and lifted off.

Good news. Compression and oil pressure are all fine. I had to return before the test was run on the engine but John has got the main electrical circuitry in, so the starter motor ran from the key turn. So it's all systems go. Simeon has got a new lad just started (Nissan tech with home restoration skills) and another one joining soon, so John has free rein now to get it running on the Megasquirt. So donations welcome!

Alternator in.

Adjustable fuel pressure regulator. Rather nicer than the original, goes up to 5 bar.

Just a short video detailing the physical differences between MegaSquirt 2 and 3 and how the hardware all fits together. Nothing too technical just to get folks in "megasquirt mode" ;)

But, soft, what light through yonder window breaks?

Not quite ignition, but the first sign of life in over 20 years.

On turning over the engine on the starter motor (which is very vigorous) we have healthy oil pressure showing on the original gauge from the original feed and sensor. Progress!
