Mercedes W114 250 Coupe - help!

Meanwhile over in Germany my seats are somewhat delayed at KHM by limited availability of the perforation system at MB, so mid November looks to be the completion time for them. Better get some winter boots sorted then!

Lowering springs and the requisite Bilstein heavy duty shocks located and ordered.

My plan is a schedule of works with parts provided on as close to a just in time basis as possible.

First job - reassemble the engine.

No idea what happened there!

Bear in mind that debate continues to rage as to whether White - and, indeed, Black - are actually colours.

Oi, you two, 'op it, this is my thread, I'm the only one allowed to make bad jokes on here.

If white isn't a colour the car's going to end up in a luminous green primer. This is not what any of us want.

Now if that had been grey primer....
I like flat grey as a car colour but too light and it reminds me of a car in primer prior to receiving its top coat. Lately though, I have noticed a number of cars in light to mid tone (flat) grey and they look (to my eyes) wonderful. If MB had such a period colour - you can guess what I'd be prompting.

They do have a few greys.

Anthrazitgrau (non metallic)

Anyway, I popped up to the body shop today to find them being unfaithful with a newly arrived BMW, so I told them to get on with mine sharpish. By coincidence, entirely unrelated to my pep talk I'm sure, but they started getting the priming process underway 10 minutes later.

It's a very flat grey.

Anthracite metallic is a good combination with the red, but 717 remains unconquered.

Enough of colours. Time to get stuck back in to mechanical stuff. I'm trying to sort out the spec of all the sensors etc and I'd thought I start with an air idle control valve. It looks to me that the current air intake valve is the black pipe bottom left - from air intake to valve at bottom end of manifold. Does this look correct?

I've posted this before but all I can say is that these two grays with red interior look like a perfect match - they go very, very well with each other. They are Rolls Royce colours from the late 60's, If you are interested I can get a photo including the interior once I return to the Winter House and try to track down exactly what colours they are....

I also saw a grey SLC on the Orchard Road in Singapore back in 2008, looked like a Princess!

That's Shell Grey over Tudor Grey, both Royce colours from the early 50s. My Allard (with red leather) is painted Tudor Grey.

However any Benz of mine will only ever be painted a correct Benz colour.

Arrangement on the SM - a feed from both air intakes originally, now just one with an idle control valve

Originally both pipes entered this arrangement, (one now blanked off) then into manifold

What looks like the old DJet manifold air temperature sensor (one for the pair)

What looks like the new air temp sensor (one per manifold)

There's a Pagoda in Arabian Grey over red leather on the back of the Gazette this month. It looks fantastic being both a period correct and a contemporary colour.
