Mercedes W114 250 Coupe - help!

Blinking freeloaders the pair of them. I've got an idea for getting rid of them sharpish...

I know of a guy in Yarksire that has three 107 hard-tops on the floor of his conservatory.

He's single too.

Being Yarkshire there's probably a communal understanding that those wasteful with their cash on such fripperies need to be prevented from passing on their extravagant genetics, so he's going to be condemned never to have a local partner.

The paint has been ordered, and I shall be going up there tomorrow to see progress on primer etc, which I'm told is substantial.

In other news, my Bilstein heavy duty shocks arrived from Germany today too. I can't wait for all these bits to be put on the car, I might then have somewhere to stand or sit down.

My concern with V8 configuration engines that they might interfere with the tubular bulkhead to spring perch bracing. Their removal would weaken the structural rigidity of the front body cell without further re-inforcement?
Have any of you figured out why these tubes are in 250CE and not in 280CE?

I needed to remove them and I'm now thinking should I make some reinforcements an where. Not that I've noticed anything strange yet, but...

It might be in the begining it was "belt and braces" addition to improve structual rigidity which proved redundant or was replaced by a redesign/re-enforcement of the all-important inner wing to bulkhead union welds - facilitated by an increased gauge of relevant body section steel around the same time they were omitted.:dk:
Since most of the suspension loads are taken by the subframe it may not be that vital.
Mercedes often modified chassis components- " on the fly" as potential structural defects came to light- see this thread on the related front subframe of the R107.

I hadn't realised the braces were missing from the M110 engined cars. They look pretty insubstantial but they must have a role.

In other news, my distributor returned from a Scottish break looking a bit, well, different. Watch this space.

Test card time. Arabergrau on a W114 - perfect foil for the chrome and shape of the car

Just needs white walls and a red interior.... :)

P.S. You do have a green tint in the glass don't you Charles.

Interesting fact of today. Tony2 took Tony (the chap who gave me the car) to the Haynes motor collection yesterday. As they passed the Ford GT40 there, Tony piped up that before he became a mechanic, he'd been a technical draughtsman, and he had done all the drawings for the GT40's front offside suspension, it having been put together in Slough. Rather lovely to find out.

The talent (associated with motorsport) is widely spread. Today, I fell into conversation with a guy who has worked with Jordan, McLaren, and Jaguar F1 teams making carbonfibre components - in a boat chandlers yard in Macduff!

Well if you like I'll pop round to Chris's place to see if he'll come and bless it on it's first journey.

Took my son to Alexandra Palace on Sunday. He is only 7 and loves classic Mercedes Benz cars. The first car we saw was this. What a beauty!!!! Closely followed by a nice Gullwing. Enjoy

That's nice. A set of metal plates would suit it a bit better, but a minor criticism!
