Are there (m)any?

Since I'll be staying in New Zealand for probably 12 months it would be super cool if I found a decent W201 or W124 for a reasonable price there.

What I know so far is that there are plenty of (older) Asian cars and vans which are not my cup o' tea though ...

I reckon there are some New Zealanders on the forum so it would be great to hear from you!

Thanks,
Marvin

I was in NZ in November and german cars of any make were notable by their absence

All I know is cars, even very old, are astronomically expensive over there.

Second that!

Have a look here:
TradeMe.co.nz - c180 for sale, New Zealand

A W202 C180 looks to cost in the £2k range... about 4x what it costs here + on-the-road costs. That said, transfer of ownership appears to cost only $9 - so quite cheap to some places. (In Italy for example it's nearly 300€ now for ownership transfer of a car...)

M.

Make sure you get something with a comfy ride. The road surfaces are horrible coarse chippings which make so much road rumble when inside a tinny jap box.

Hey folks,

thanks for the replies!

I asked the same on the 190 UK forum and Hamish from Christchurch (NZ) told me there were actually "plenty of Mercs in this country"

> More here <

We'll see then!
As said before, if I was to find a nice 190 or W124 for a reasonable price I'd really consider buying it (Merc virus) ...

I already looked at some Mercs on autotrader.co.nz and can only say that the prices are alright compared to those in Germany.
Most people over here trying to sell their 190s must think their cars are made of gold. Getting quite ridiculous at times.

Even if I bought a 190 for 2 grand, that'd still be 'only' about 1200€ (and that's about 400 less than I paid for the red one). :thumb:

Either way, I'll keep you updated.

£2000 is closer to 1800 Euro.

Hrrrm really not the best of ideas, is it?
I will probably end up riding a bike anyway

W, I'm planning to travel the entire country from North to South and East to West. There's simply so much to see

I'd like to be down in Wanaka for the Warbirds over Wanaka Airshow which takes place from 18-20th April and then up again in Auckland or Wellington for a concert of one of my favourite bands, taking place on 2nd and 3rd May ... The rest will hopefully consist of traveling, working, discovering with no real destination etc.

One thing I need to keep in mind though is how big NZ actually is.
I got so used to Great Britain's size that I'm always shocked to see the North-South distances in New Zealand (wish I could take my baby benz with me) ... :(

Drop us a line when you arrive Marvin, who's playing in Wellington anyway...??

I will :thumb:

A band from Sheffield called Arctic Monkeys :p
I already saw them on 13/11/13 in Munich, it was a fantastic concert.
When they announced their Australia & New Zealand shows just a week later I was literally jumping for joy.

True. It is a vast sparsely populated place and I find the gob smacking scenery quite distracting. Much better being a passenger so you can take it all in. I can see why people want to live there.

Just a little teaser, Mt Doom no less.....

nice car but stiff price. :(
i'd prefer an E320 cabriolet, or two, to be honest  :thumb:

by the way: only 8 days left. frankfurt -> dubai -> sydney -> auckland.
gotta leave that place before the winter finally shows up...

Stay away from DXB it's like a zoo.

Let me know your plans, got a couple of cabbies for sale here right now.
