Is your 190 up to it?

Haha :D
Has such a thing been done before? From Europe to OZ/NZ by car? What a trip that must be...
Wouldn't say no to it ;) if the middle east was a safer place for an infidel like myself..

I've done an overland trip from Kathmandu to London in 1976 - close but no cigar I guess....

It has, there's even a travel agent that organizes it as a drive bus-journey...

You avoid the middle east by going north - the only real problem is China, where driving a foreign car is really hard and expensive...

Interested in Lynyrd Skynyd Marvin?

Lynyrd Skynyrd Feb 08, 2014 Taupo

Could be persuaded to drive you back up to Auckland for the 9th in one of the Cabbies if you found your way to Taupo, cracking spot to be honest, cracking drive to Auckland too.

Here's a sample of their work if you don't know them....

That's right up my street, mate.
I love all kinds of Classic Rock so this would be a real cracker  :thumb:
Skynyrd's latest album is pretty cool, too.. it will certainly be a great concert

I will try to get down to Taupo on Saturday (or Friday evening).. we'll see how that'll work out :D

btw, less than 12 hours until take-off ....

We are waiting till Thurs to see what the weather is doing, so far it looks ok Marvin. There is another concert the following day north of Auckland, but you won't get to see the Concours.
Bus may be best to Taupo....

Stay in touch.

Don't get sick at DXB, stay away from people - if you can, DON'T touch your nose with your hands and wash them often - sounds silly but it works. Nothing worse than getting here sick.

For the first time in years we have a bumper grape crop in NZL.
These guys are screaming out for decent harvesting staff in Marlborough Melvin, nice part of the world, decent type of bloke running this company, should have a ball and earn at the same time.

Grapeworx Marlborough Ltd Blenheim Area | Yellow® NZ

Max [or Mat??] is the guys name who runs it. :)

Hi W,

finally able to get on the net.

Currently sitting in the hostel lounge here in Auckland. flight was horrible. i'm too tall for those ****teh economy class seats, even in the A380.
the shower after 30 hours of being a stinky pirate was amazing.

i probably wont be able to make it to taupo, but we'll see.
can't think properly, the breakfast was a poor mix of toast and
milk. too much china town here, but at least some super markets
where i can go buy stuff later today.

want to get out of this city by the end of the week. the hostel
is alright but i'm stuck in a fckn 8 bed room. so much stink, no fresh
air, no safes for my stuff (cam, notebook, phone etc.)...
but at least i am alive and i feel good. that's more important.

looking forward to seeing you on Sunday and maybe Saturday too.

thanks for the job tip, i'll have a look.

two things i want to find asap:
# a job
# a nice car

most of the cars that are being sold look horrible, not really impressed so far.
really hoping to find a good merc, willing to spend the money...

see you later

What Hostel are you in Marvin & how much a night...

Until you have a car and decent accommodation things will be a little rough for you, but grin and bear it and get yourself set up properly ASAP.

Trademe have the cars just do a search, there are plenty of good ones out there.

Call Harry at Northshore Car Clinic, good Merc Mechanic, he may know of something for you, but he is busy and a one man band, he can't run round after you unfortunately but can point you in the right direction.

Maybe get a Toyota van that you can sleep in, check trademe, check at reception.

Turners Car Auctions can be a good source too.

Maybe get yourself a job picking grapes, you will meet others in a similar situation as yourself, they may have something for sale etc, there should be accommodation provided, you will have a ball I'd say & it gives you time to plan what you want to do next.

Weather on Sat doesn't look too good at all.
