On a 2000 W208 Cab - not a serious issue, but will need to be addressed eventually.

Does anyone know if this is covered by a Manufacturer warantee?

Cheers
Nathan

It is a known problem area, take it to your stealership and tell them about it! Any vehicles manufactured after sometime late 1998 are covered by a bodywork warranty, possibly subject to service history (must have seen an MB stealership in the last 2 years IIRC).

Nice one - I'll give it a try

Thanks

Good luck with your claim!

I had some rust on the bootlid of my previous car (same location). I didn't know about the warranty but got a quote for repairing the bootlid from a local bodyshop and it was about £100, so even then it wasn't that expensive if I had to use a 3rd party.

Ask the steelers to check other known areas for rust on your car while they are looking at your boot..

just been to the stealers regarding the rust on mine!

- rust on lock on bootlid
- Major rust appearing on rear wheelarch
- Rust on front wings near indicators.

when doing the paint check he old me it had been painted in the past (tell me something I dont know), but all the rust is coming from inside, not surface rust.

the guy checking was very unoptimistic, looked like he really thought it was a waste of time!

hthey took pics and wrote a report, lets see what happens!

Hi Nathan,
Unfortunately once you start seeing signs of this rust then I would be treating it as 'serious'

I am sure you are and hopefully you have a full service history with the car?

I mention this simply because it should make your case much stronger. Mercedes are certainly carrying out goodwill repairs on vehicles without any service history at all (DrNick) but I can see this gesture gradually being phased out.

Good luck,
John

Took the C43 to Brentford this morning, rust on the corner of the Sunroof, i have a very good relationship with them as they have looked after the SClass since new. Still no conclusions either way from the main man who took the photo's, see what Milton Keynes have to say.

good luck with your claim C43, funny thing is, the only real place where my car hasnt been painted in the past is the roof!

front painted - due to stonechips
front panels painted - to get rid of indicators
drivers side painted - due to key scratch
rear bumper - due to car park scratch
boot lid painted - due to small dent

now thats the funny thing, because if the car was left without these things being fixed, it would have looked a state and in my opinion NOT looked after!
and probably would have started to rust alot earlier!

Hi All

If rust breaks out from a previous repair, providing it was undertaken by a MB approved repairer, MB will authorize a second repair. I know, it happened to me. However, I still had to go through the authorization process with DC and it was 8 months before the work was done during which time the corrosion spread.

If it's surface rust, the dealer will want to examine the rust spots with a powerful magnifying glass and a paint thickness gauge. In the vast majority of cases they will claim the spots are untreated stone chips and therfore the owners responsibility. What I find curious is that stone chips can appear in some very strange, out-of-the-way places. Be prepared to hold your ground and get a second opinion. Dealers aren't going to part with money if they can help it.

Has any member used the paint touch-up kits you can buy in Halfords, etc? There's 3 pencil-like containers (rust inhibitor, undercoat, top coat?) in a clear plastic container resembling a cigar case. I believe there many be emery paper and other items in the kit.

REGARDS Phil

I had warranty paintwork done on my my2000 w208 coupe on the boot lid, the MIDDLE of o/s door and the back edge of the front wing (that one, I was sure would be rejected due to stones damging the wing there, especially a 6 year old one!!) All was done in a week and even got a free courtesy car for the duration. as far as I can see in the service book, it hasn't seen a stealer for 4 years/30,000 miles ago:cool: Like everyone is saying, stand your ground and having a sympathetic dealer might help:)
