Hi guys, just bought an ML270 CDI, 2003 facelift model. I've noticed there seem's to be a fault with the headlights stalk in that, the main beam trigger seems to have a mind of its own and will flick between main beam and low beam on its own. Also the side lights at times will stay on by themselves with the switch at position "0" Anyone else come across this? if so any idea on a fix? Someone mentioned the light control module, do these cause problems?

Thanks

Well I bought a brand new stalk from Mercedes, but the problem still continues. I've checked the relays and they all seem fine, even swapped them them with new ones to be sure, but still no luck.

Hi Sudesh,

Sorry to hear the problem still persists.

I would get the vehicle put on the Mercedes STAR machine. That should pin point the problem.

Maybe someone might have had a similar problem and will shortly be able to let you know.

My car doesn't seem to be able to show the parking lights anymore when the stalk is rotated.

Do your parking lights still work?

Hi,

Yeah a real pain in the ass! Thought it might have been something simple but after forking out £160 for the stalk, its still the same.

Parkng lights do work but its still a sporadic thing so hard to determine whats going on at times.

Hi Sudesh,

I would suggest you get your car put on STAR. Surely your car woudn't pass an MOT?

Star will pin point the problem, it has to be a STAR machine though.

I hope you issue gets sorted soon.

Still ongoing, I had it plugged into a STAR machine, didnt get much help from the guys other that they said it was a CAN problem, and they would need the car to go through the wiring and check connectors. Surely that would take some time!!! I have checked most of them myself and havent seen any problems or bad connections that would relate to this problem.

Can anyone with the same vehicle, take a pic of there footwell fuse box as I would like to see what color the relays are. I phoned mercedes and asked them but got very limited help there too.

any luck

Hi, any luck with fixing your lights. I bought a 2003 22 cdi and I have a similar problem. I can flash my main beam but when I push lever forward to keep main beam on nothing happens. I didnt think cars like MB would suffer from such problems.

Hi,

Yes I'm 99% sure I know what the issue is now and it seems to be common enough fault with the ML, basically the AAM [All Activity Unit] is faulty.

When these go faulty they can cause various different faults, mine was with the lights. When I started some research I noticed a few used AAM units for sale and when I asked the seller what was wrong with the units they said it caused issues with the lights.

From what I can find, its based to buy a brand new one and then have it coded to the car with STAR. You need to know the exact model of your AAM so I guess you will need to plug the ML into the star machine or remove the AAM and write down the numbers on it.

Its not cheap, £214.00 I think.

Expensive!!!
