I have just replaced the engine (cracked head) and fuel filter can anyone tell me how bleed the air from the fuel lines and filter. Is there a lift pump in the fuel tank? When I disconnect the fuel lines from the tank and crank the engine no fuel flows from either line. Should I have filled the fuel filter when I installed it? The replacement engine has sat around for a couple of years.
Thanks

I refer to my C270cdi W203 (same of your engine): on the manuals (the one delivery with the car) there is a note that explain to crank several seconds the engine with the battery when you change the fuel filter, to fill the new one the lines etc.

If you have filled before the filter you've done well since this help to start because mine taken about 2 minutes to start. It's normal but obviously your battery should be in good condition (mine is a 100Ah and were new at that time).

this to say that if all is OK, after the replace of the fuel filter it's normal to crank several seconds: I suggest 1min maximum than wait and start again since it will start the engine, if this will not happen should be something else.

To note I'm not a mechanic so my are personal experience and suggestion;)

Thanks for your help.

Cheers :)
