Hi all I've put new parking shoes on, there is also new discs all around but I did degrees the drums as a precaution because they did look a bit messed from the old shoes I also scored the inside of the drums a little, I wound the adjusters up until I felt resistance while turning the wheel and then slackened of a little but my parking brake is almost none existent I can push the pedal all the way down with resistance at the last few clicks
any ideas thanks steve.

Just to be sure, I hope you didn't put grease on the brake shoe contact area.

You've done the right thing first by setting the adjusters at each wheel, next is to go underneath the car, about halfway down the tunnel you'll find a 'Y' adjuster which may need resetting.

Also check the parking brake mechanism is functioning correctly, approx. 4-5 clicks should lock the wheels.

I've been under the ML and followed the cables all the way up to where they are connected to the single cable and I can't see any where to adjust them or is the adjustment on that linkage I can't work it out . It looks like I'm going to have to take the discs back off to check that nothing has come apart that's connected to the shoes, one thing that I'm not happy about is that the new springs are much bigger and stronger than the ones that came off, and the spring that is by the side of the adjuster kept pushing the adjuster off the shoe as I was fitting the new shoes in place but I don't think I will have time until the weekend to have a look.

Quick update on the non existent park break !! It's now been solved I took the disc back of on the drivers side to check everything and discovered that the cable end had come of the part that operates the shoes , so I have now realised that when fitting new shoes I found it so much easier to.Number 1 use 2 zip ties to hold the adjuster to the spring as his keeps it all nicely in place Number 2 use a zip tie to hold the part that operates the shoes in place until everything is all in place and then take the zip ties of fit worked a treat for me.
