'modern' performance car to run on classic insurance?

I've had a 190 16V, a 190 2.6 and a W124 280E on classic insurance (approx £100pa) over the last year or so. The 190s were '80s and the W124 is a '93.

But does anyone here run a performance car from the same era on modern classic insurance? Something like an R32 Skyline GT-R? Honda NSX? Or something like that AMG 3.4 coupe that's currently on PH?

My 2001 '51' CLK55 is on a modern classic policy.

Great price and very comprehensive policy - try Peter Best for a quote.

BTW, they offer a 10% discount for members of the official Mercedes-Benz owners club - so could be worth joining for that saving alone?

My '03 CLK55 is on a 'modern classic' with Footman James. It was the policy I was using for my MX-5. Limited mileage, includes breakdown cover.

Pleased they let me do that as it's < 500 a year rather than 1300 with a 975 excess, which was the only other quote I got.

Just be aware that some classic policies do not take any account of ncb and do not allow any to be built up either.

It might cost a little more, but yes you can.^If you don`t mind a lhd that`s a lovely car.If you check this link AMG 300CE Originall Vollausstatung! on eBay (end time 09-Oct-09 14:04:07 BST) There is a similar mileage and spec, have a look at the price and it has three days to go.

Thanks all. If a CLK55 goes onto a modern classic policy, that sounds hopeful. :) Although I got no joy from Peter Best when I was in the MBOC (8 years ago?), maybe things have improved and he can round up decent quotes.

Swiss Toni - yes, I know about the NCB thing. I have about 10 years NCB on the daily driver. Not too worried about not getting a second NCB going.
