MOT Disaster Update

Ok, disaster update ....

The car is ready ...... cost £650 ...

The good news is that the rest of the car is absolutely rock solid , they checked and the only corroded bits were the bits they had to cut out where the underseal had split and let water in , so I suppose it's not all bad ... they welded new section in and re-undersealed the lot . Potential good news for w124 owners that !

Changed the diff oil too ..... so hopefully everything will be nice and smooth...

The cost also incorporates two MOT's as obviously it failed the first one , and they outsource the MOT to another local company, and as they didn't do the work , there is a re-test cost ...... I could argue this but it will create bad feeling amongst us all and they are a handy bunch to know , so I won't ..

Anyway , I'm going to collect it at 1 , so i'll report back this afternoon ....

That's great Howard - surely another tick in the box for why you should keep her ;)

The sun is shining, the birds are singing and the whale is back in its natural environment.

I understand you want to sell the car, but if it is because of lack of funds then there is no logical argument. Selling this car with a new shiny bottom, and to quote 'Rock solid' everywhere else, and then buy an unknown quantity for more money just because it is slightly more economical is bad economics. If anything goes wrong with the new vehicle then you are instantly out of pocket.

How much fuel will be saved 5 - 10 mpg? How many miles per year do you average and what is the total saving? How much will the new car devalue and will that devaluation eat into any fuel savings you might make? How much will the servicing of the new more technical car cost, compared to your current machine?

I am still thinking you are tempted to change, just because you fancy something different? I have NO problems with that, we all do the same thing, your current car is a known quantity and I look forward to seeing even more pictures of this nice example of a classic marque, and good luck with selling it :o .

John

£650 seems very reasonable and a fraction you would pay at a MB body shop . Good news also on the overall body condition. As Pammy says another reason to keep the old bus.:bannana: :bannana:

Right , it's back ....

What I find galling is that £650 later and it doesn't feel any different !! I know it shouldn't , but when you've outlaid money you want something to be different or better or something ....

Anyway , they've done a good job , and i've just retaxed it ( another ton  ) , gonna give it a wash now as it's filthy and dusty from being parked up at the back of my house for days ....

Pleased it's done, whats the score with driving about wih an out of date disc even if you have applied online ?

Right , it's back ....

At least that is good news :)

I know you must feel unhappy about spending so much money, but try to put that out of your mind - I hope you will soon experience the joy of driving it again :)

There will always be sunshine again after a rainy period! ;)

I am glad you got it back ok, I would say just drive it, but don't park it on the road or public car park, your new disk wont take long, I just did Tracy's online really quick...:)

I wanted to tax the Golf but have just had to apply for a new logbook:o they can take weeks:(

You can still be done for it: failure to display a valid tax disc.

This is true even if the disc fell off the windscreen and was sitting on the passenger seat or even stuck on the wrong side of the windscreen!

I agree with you there. Nothing worse than a big bill for something you can't even see but, hey, any structural work to a house, car or even teeth is like that. It's not exclusive to whales :D

So, best not to drive it until it arrives then ?

If you went down to Post Office they would issue tax disc instantly and all you would have had to do is fill in a simple/short form.

Applying for tax on line is only worth while if applying i.e. two weeks in advance.

I can't be doing with standing in line ....

Post offices here have queues 30 miles long snaking out of the door, Granny getting her pension , everyone shipping their Ebay sales  , and every other neer-do-well lurking in the line ....

I'll use the Ka till it comes ....

That's because they spend 5 minutes trying to sell insurance / credit cards / etc. (which I assume they get commission for) to every person, rather than simply serving them.

eeeeeeeuuuuuuuuuwwwwwwwwww no Howard - it's ugly - got no class and looks so dated. At least the Whale's got class and a fan base:D :D

The Merc has a fan base for sure, but have you seen the number of persons taking an interest in the Honda. Nearly 6000 when I looked !!!!!!!

Just goes to show, the masses have no class.

See that car coming towards you from afar and you would not have a clue what it was.

However, see the Merc coming and hey.........
