steady 60mph ............

72 mpg from a C270 Cdi Auto with the aircon on , two passengers and basement jaxx booming :D

:D Bless - a very happy chappy then :D

sounds like a miracle ... if you believe in such things

Hi

But what is it really doing, i had a loan 220cdi for a fortnight or so and at the end of each journey home from work the mpg was always in the high 50's or low 60's when i brimmed the tank again it only got 43 or so. I really could not have driven that thing any easier, only thing i put it down to was the fact that it only had 2000 miles on it and that it might have improved with age.

yep :) gives me a 981 mile range on a single tank

I would get filling station withdrawal symptoms!

Would need to fill up 3 times to get that! Only got 280 miles out of my last 55 litres.

ditto :D but it's fun :D

All very well at a constant speed, but you'll struggle to get 40mpg average unless you drive like a grandad.

Yeah - was gonna' say ... watch your 981 miles range & 72 mpg rise and fall as you go up & down hills ! My 'range' seems to lose 50 miles or so every time I stop & start the engine, and then gains 100 once I start cruising again ... not the most accurate indicator ! Makes you very aware of your driving style though !!

I know , it did go down when i went up a hill , went down to 65mpg.

then i got fed up and just booted it and it ended up over 120 miles at 56mpg with me not hanging about over country roads.

Ill take a camera tonight , im doing the same journey again.

It just seems to be the car that keeps giving ... why oh why didnt i buy a diesel before this?

Fuzzer, that is a very long hill you've been driving down, where is it ?

My magnetic fuel device is still fitted, but the banana is long since gone.
These figures I can only dream of. 26-27 mpg in mixed conditions and a great car to drive.

A77 glasgow -ayr road

best i could ever achieve on that road driving the same with my C180 kompressor was 43

Till very recently big luxury diesel sedans didn't exist that could achieve these figures. You'd have hated the diesels of 10 years ago - smoky noisy gutless wonders.

Did you reset the trip computer after the car warmed up? Cold starts seem to really kill my mpg, it takes quite a long time for the average to go up, reset the computer after its warmed up and it will easy average over 40.

Was that going from Ayr to Glasgow just at the start of the M77?
It's downhill from there almost all the way to the Kingston bridge. My 420 goes off the econometer (i.e. more than 30mpg) at 85mph down the first big long hill on the M77. Of course it drops to between 10 and 0mpg all the way back !!

Have you tried the new Stevenson-Ardrossan bypass? A nice place to try top out and nowhere for the police to hide, but watch out for the ill placed roundabouts.

yeah , i reset it after the engine had warmed up. I get about 43 if i don't reset it.

No , it was going over the eaglesham moor road and heading through the roadworks towards ayr. its not a great big hill , just a slight decline. Ill look into that bypass tho ;)

cos it sounds like a tractor :D

seriously cant speak for a 270 but was persuaded by dealer to try a c200 cdi out , reversed it out of parking bay and drove it staight back in again.
i know theres the torque and mpg but you pay for it!
also having done calculations doing only 7000 mls a year the diesel option would have cost me £2700 more and only saved me £90 a year on fuel. and aren't services more? the insurance was and then theres the noise
