Multi changer E320 CDI 2001

I put CD's in my multi-changer and the head unit is saying no CD. The changer is ejecting the CD holder and accepting it, so there's power going to it.
Is it worth taking out and trying to fix or should I just replace with after market CD head unit.
Has anyone had this problem?
I would prefer to get it working for originality sake, but don't want to spend a huge amount of time on it if it's a lost cause. I would have thought with it being in the boot all types of nasty things would get at it (damp etc).
Any info would be appreciated

Sorry if these sound like stupid questions but ive done it myself in the past. Are the cds in the right way round label facing up or down to the holder and if you haven't filled the magazine try jumping to the next CD as space 1 might be empty rather than space 6

I have a similar problem with our auto changer, it recognises cd's 1 to 3 but not 4 to 6 saying no cd so I'll be interested to see the outcome of this thread.

I've had this happen a couple of times, pulling the power from the changer and then re-connecting can fix it.

Tried disconnecting and reconnecting, no joy :fail

I then removed changer and stripped. It was full of bits of mud, stones and other crud. Unfortunately age, crud and damp may be the cause of the demise of my Mercedes changer

I will however get a second opinion before removing it for good

Have you looked on fleabay for a second hand one? I'm don't know the part number for the boot fitted one, but a quick search found this.

It looks the same, but connection are different

I have a Mercedes breaker a few miles away and could get one there, I think, but I'll try and get this one fixed.

If this doesn't work I'll go down the avenue of replacing it.

Hi Mike,

I just noticed that the changer you showed doesn't post to NI But I'll keep an eye for other changers. There looks to be plenty out there.
