So I picked my C63 Coupe up on Friday, from Mercedes in Epsom.

After having a fairly length wait, about a month from deposit to collection, Friday was the day.

I was nervous/excited. I was coming from an S2000 which I adored and cherished, to a totally different car in many aspects.

Handover was great, the usual dealership unveiling and gifts etc, and I was on the road by about lunch time. Car felt great, the overwhelming brute force at low speeds came rushing back to me from the test drive.

Car was prepped great. I haggled the price so low, that he wasn't sure how many of the smaller details could be sorted, but it exceeded my expectations and looked great.

Here's the obligatory picture from when I drove over to visit my parents:-

After spending a weekend with it, here are the things that I need to sort.

1) I think the tracking needs doing, would this be part of dealer prep or not?
2) The tyre pressures? The onboard tyre monitor was reading 3.7-3.9 bar in the fronts, to 4.0-4.2 bar in the rears. That sounds excessive? Am I right in saying it should be about 2.6-2.7 bar all round?
3) Dash rattle(s)! There's an annoying rattle in the middle of the dash somewhere. Something I can fix myself, or is it a dealer warranty job hoping they don't make it worse?
4) There appears to be a hole in the fuel tank, based on how quickly the fuel gauge is going down.... Oh wait.

Drove the car to the station this morning, C mode, heated seats on, and just chilled. Epic contrast to a weekend of making some noise, and becoming addicted to the soundtrack!

Is it a rattle or squeaking noise from the dash? I have squeaking noise coming from the middle of the dash (where the audio controls are) and based on my research it seems to be a common issue with these. I can fix it by holding in the plastic bits with my finger. How stupid of them to put plastic against plastic!

Hi, nice car, probably not a hole in the petrol tank!

Tongue in cheek, but yes, I believe the fuel economy is part of the charm  Teens around town, and then mid twenties on a cruise.

Annoyingly it didn't rattle on the way to the station, but it was definitely central dash, around the audio/vents/comand screen area.

I de-rattled my Honda's, so not sure whether I should do it (doing a better job?!) or whether I should ask the dealer?

Just noticed you're in Ely.

I'm not far away in St Ives... Any recommendations for a good specialist in the area?

balancing and tracking only the responsibility if you spot something on the day whilst you are driving it.

I bought an m3 once with a buckled wheel on the drive down to London I called them and 6 months later and a lot of emails I finally got them to replace the wheel.

My advice is take a trip to wheels in motion in Amersham, people travel far and wide to visit them and it is well worth it.

Next, tyre pressures. You have the 19's and I personally think the pressures in the fuel cap are exceptionally high.

I have found 41.5 at the rear and 40 at the front good for me. You can go lower but I like the hard ride.

Congrats btw she is lovely!!!

I'll play with the pressure's tonight.

From some googling, I can tell it's quite sensitive to the tyre pressures. I must say the MO spec Dunlop Sport Maxx all round feel pretty good, and I've used a number of good tyres in the past. Impressed with the steering feel too.

I don't mind if I have to arrange the tracking/geo check myself, just wondered if it should have been done as part of the dealer prep? From my S2000 days, I am aware of WiM and CG. Thanks though!

I'm already buzzing for my little drive home tonight, it's going to get under my skin I think.

The handbook wasn't with the car, so the dealer has a new one on order from Germany, which is great. Need to check which oil I should be buying for topups!

Thanks supaer :thumb:

That's an amazing car mate. More pics please!!!

And don't forget to update your profile. It says you've got an S2000 still

Hi I have to ask as a new owner how do you find the car when your really giving it some I.e speeds of around 80mph+ on a private road obviously. I feel like the car moves around the steering feels a bit light and vague I've got almost brand new contis so it's not the tyres.

Got it booked in at merc on weds but i have a feeling they will fob me off.

Would be good to hear your thoughts.

Get some felt tape for the dash, did this on mine and the noises should disappear. Ended up doing the mid and lower console on our car. It's the only thing that lets the car down in my opinion. Seems temperature related too. Cheap plastics combined with bad design...The dealer failed to fix mine on two occasions. Enjoy the torque.

Thanks, will take a look.

I've not really explored that side of the car much yet, but a couple of times I have, I think it might have felt a bit light, but my tyre pressures were silly high, so I will report back with the pressures now sorted.

Sweet looking machine nice colour

Cheers Bron!

Thanks, this is probably given me all I need to know. I'm capable of doing a better job I think, so I will. Any links to felt the you used, or any guides to dismantling the dash? :thumb:

Hi, I would recommend Stewart & Wisbey near Ely, can't fault them.
My car is there as I type having ATF, coolant and brake fluid change.

They also have a loan car service.
Hope this helps.

I had the exactly the same on my car. Had the dealership sort it when it went in for service. They pretty much eradicated it but seem to have created a different one in the binnacle!

Solution: heated seats on, windows and sun roof open, manual mode and just blat and shift! The only soundtrack I need!

I had this issue after fitting new tyres and tracking and balancing done, turned out the torque arms needed to be replaced, and it has completely transformed the car.. The dealer told me that many needed to be replaced due to a fault. It was accompanied by a clicking noise at low speeds

Update so apparently mb did not change anything and have blamed it on high tyre pressures apparently they were 4psi more than recommended????

Anyway hope that sorts it I'll test it on the weekend.

Gave the Coupe a 'detail' over the weekend, and by detail, I mean... Wash, Snow Foam, Clay, Polish, Sealant and Wax. Then did the tyres, interior, etc.

It came up really well, and overall I'm very pleased with the condition of the car.

Pics!

First tank of fuel, I averaged 16.7mpg with most of that around town etc.

Totally in love with the noise of this car, and the general 'event' of driving it.
