My C230 vs BMW 535i

Blimey ...

Same time as the Mclaren F1

0-30 mph (48 km/h): 1.8 s
0–60 mph (97 km/h): 3.2 s
0–100 mph (160 km/h): 6.3 s

You sure there's not something more sinister than a 4 pot 2.3L under the bonnet that you aren't telling us about ? ;)

I am thinking of writing to MB to complain. The SLK230 that I had was a miserable thing that couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding. Admittedly it was an auto but the trip to sixty was a painful affair for a car that looked like it had serious intentions.

:D

To be fair the 0-30 isn't dramatically different between all sorts of cars as traction is the limiting factor.

According to Autocar's Road Test, my car does 0-30 mph in 1.9s so I'm going to be harrassing F1 owners into going head to head on 0-30 drags next time I see a gang of them hanging around on the McDonalds car park!! :D

Just looking on t'web and the CLK430 has a 0-30 time of 2.5 seconds ...

I certainly won't be messing with the F1 crew in Halfords car park :(

Mate , i'm just playing ... don't take me seriously :)

What mods does the car have and what dyno did you use? I think all your figures sound a bit out....That said I always found the C230K a capable car, seemingly keeping pace with all sorts.

That was until I bought a faster car and ran both cars for a few weeks during which time I found the C230K frustratingly slow, almost like the revs were building in slow motion!

I also found the ~4K standstill rev limit a handy point to drop the clutch at, should you be on the start line of a drag strip. With the ASR of it was a good compromise of wheelspin and acceleration. Some fishtail action too should you not actually be at a drag strip at all, instead a cambered road.

Actually your conversion from BHP at the wheels is what I always used on mine - 18%. So either you really have 22BHP more at the wheels than my stock C230K or your dyno just wasn't comparable.

I've only dynoed a car once in my whole life (this one) so i dont know what dyno i used. And that clip on youtube was made before i even touched the car (so to speak..) all i've got is an exhaust, chip and moved the MAf next to the throttle.

I honestly dont think my car is that fast, its just alot faster than people perceive it to be. Also i found that the manual was in another world compared to the auto when i was test driving 230k's, but that is just my opinion.

Yes that I would agree with. Likewise I also found it faster than even I thought it should be, as on the move it would keep pace with vehicles I thought it had no place to. It was the car that taught me torque is important!

Re-mapped 535D as quick as an M5, laughably incorrect.

You need a lot of extra power on the road to make much of a difference unless you get up to big speeds.

Dave!

Every manual car can do better on a drag, but it`s hard to belive that for a V8.A w124 300-24 has nearly 240bhp

A 300-24 , with the M104 , is a SIX CYLINDER twin cam with 231 bhp ( as installed in my 300TE-24 ) .

I recon Kompressor Dudes C230K is faster than yours Adam.

Whats all this turd about buying a BMW? Have you no taste man?

Yeah yeah, you've never been out in mine... you're always busy making excuses to leave!!

i still dont know yet... i'm having a hard time deciding between the e39 540 and the lexus soarer twin-turbo because any AMG merc i've tried to get insurance for is ludacris. ends up being £1.4k+, whereas the latter 2 i can get for £900-1000... and we both know that the E39 > W210... :ban: :D

Thought you were getting a company Mclaren ? ;)
