Nope, involves E63 parts & the use of a Dremel ;)

Really freaky if it is started doing it to my CLS today as well.

Woah, strange! Yes the paddle mod, however I got ones with different part numbers than yours. Look the same however? are yours solid Aluminium like mine?

I have take about 100 photos so I will write up a HOWTO (which will take forever :) )

Just been around the block with them, all working and feel great to use. im not 100% happy with how I got them looking, so will dismantle them once again tomorrow (if its not raining) and try to clean them up.

That steering bolt was a nightmare to untighten, it took 2 of us about 10 mins to get off.

Here you can see the difference between the orignal button and the new shifter:

With the old button dismantled, I set to work with the Dremel filing it down until it looked like so:

Fit the new shifter into the old buttons housing:

Alot of Steering wheel rubber removed and hey presto:

Now fitted in the car:

As you can see, this one isnt quiet right with its appearance, I will tidy it up tomorrow:

HOWTO Coming soon :thumb:

There's a very good fully illustrated how-to on one of the yank sites.

Regarding the part numbers there are two versions, the original ones regularly broke at the screw hole. Yours are the newer modified version which you can tell by the strengthening ribs.

You just need to put a long extension on the socket bar, couple of feet or so tube, and the wheel bolt comes undone easily :)

Hi Karl,
That just so freaky, doing the same Mod on the same day, I bought my paddles from Commandonline, I did,nt get as far as you though I ran out of time.
I took the wheel off with a 2-2.5ft Power bar on my own though I really struggled as it was incredibly tight. I spent the morning trying to find a HOW TO on how to fit the paddles to the wheel but not finding any and every thread I found regarding paddle shifters were talking about the paddle converter or using Zener diodes and 100ohm resistor so the paddles will work on the earlier cars. So thinking this was because fitting the paddles on the wheel was really easy and did,nt warrant even talking about I took the wheel off. But looking at it I decided to postpone it for a day or two.
So you actually beat me to it Karl, indeed I think I will wait for your HOW TO before doing mine.
Did you have to widen the slot in the steering wheel for the new paddle? As my paddles seem ever so slightly wider than the slot as it is.
Yes they are Aluminium, Different Pt. No. or not I have just been comparing mine with the pics of yours you put up and mine appear to be identical in every way, so what the difference I have not a clue.

Great minds eh?

Took the steering wheel off again this afternoon & tried to get it looking a bit better. Theres a 1mm gap around the switches, but unless you look closely you wont see it.

Yes you will need to Dremel out a few mm in order to fit these as they are wider than the originals. I will admit to a Schoolboy error and took to much off one of them as the end of the chock touched it without me noticing :wallbash:

I made a little HD video clip of them working aswell on my Youtube channel:

Aug 2015:

Keeping the car now due to various circumstances (pending redundancy :( ). So decided to go ahead and finally get some 19"s on it - which were actually standard in the US, an option from new here (Cheers to Mabz for spotting them):

Completely transform the look of the CLS, which as made me more than happy to keep it :bannana::bannana::bannana: - will take some better pics soon

Additionally, I did nearly 1000 miles this week, which has taken it above 100k - on the way to Mercedes-Benz World which I thought was kind of fitting: :)

Wheels look great and they are the easiest wheels to keep clean!

So so easy to clean...! however, I have noticed after about 200 miles they look gunmetal due to the brake dust!?!
