My W203 smashed...

The alloys on my car were in excellent/immaculate condition 16" Electra design. The 2 rears alloys are still fine/untouched. If anyone wants a set of rear alloys in exchange for some grubby/kerbed ones that you may have (must be MB Electra of course... ) than PM me and I'll swap them over but not the tyres....

The rears are 8Jx16".

No - I have not swapped anything and will not until the assessor has been around...

Just thought that I would do soemone on the forum a favour thats all. Electras were upgraded alloys anyway so I doubt many W203 owners have them as I have never seen a saloon with them on apart from the odd few coupes....

MBs may have their problems, but I honestly believe there is probably no better place to be in a crash.

I was told that engine bays used to ignite because of the brake fluid. Car crashes, master cylinder reservoir splits, dumps fluid onto exhaust manifold. Woosh. Apparently, Ford Granadas were particularly good at doing this.

I learned this from a friend who received serious burns when hers went up in an accident - she was told this by the police who attended.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune mate.

Best get looking in the local garages or the autotrader for adverts of what your car is worth as zee insurance ripp off merchants will no doubt offer you silly money for your motor.

I had to argue and hassle every day for two weeks to confirm reciept etc of my claim and to get a final settlement.

I was very fotunate at the time that my car was being sold for over £6k which was not bad and I ended up with a figure very near - I lost very little money with the w202 as the car part ex for it cost me nothing!! Nice birthday present!

Hope you get what its worth and dont give up with them!!

One thing that really wound me up was that I asked if i shoudl take away my personals - and the guy said no as you may need to pick the car up... so they had off with everything including road tax!

At the moment we know that Flash had let a friend borrow the car.

The friend is in the motor trade and states he has fully comprehensive insurance.

The friend states the accident was clearly the other drivers fault and states there are independant witnesses.

I don't think I have read anywhere that the other party has actually produced their insurance and most importantly agreed on the circumstances of the accident!

I personally would not be counting my chickens, or looking at replacement vehicles, until everything is agreed and sorted.

Is your car fully comprehensively insured for ANY driver, and was your friend borrowing your car in connection with his business?

We have read certain members on this forum giving advice on how to bend laws and cheat insurance companies, I just hope the guilty party in this accident is not that type otherwise this might well be a long drawn out incident.

Really sorry to hear about the car. If your firend was covered by trade insurabce than you don't have a problem......... BUT, trade insurance tend to pay out a lower fee for the car than a standard insurance company.

But the main thing is everyone is ok, car's are replacable.

Thanks for the tip KLP about Motor Trade paying out less... but fingers crossed the third party's insurers will be doing a settlemeent without my cousin having to claim off his Motor Trade policy as third party has admitted liabilty to his insurers and they even arranged for a courtesy car themselves without me having to make the request (I managed to get a 2005 C200K W203 saloon in the end of them after aruging/and blagging my way through) for a car of a similar standard where best they were offering first was a Ford Focus. It is now in the third party insurer's intrest to do a settlement ASAP as the the courtesy car is costing them about £50 a day (thats what Enterprise told me when they dropped car off Sat morning...)

Mobeyone: I spent w/end looking thorugh Autotrader and found some examples of used cars of simlar spec/model as i know for a fact that insurers will try to rip me off.

Glojo: Currently, I am not in a postion to purchase anything as until I get a decent payout then with my limited funds/savings that I have at the moment it will just about be enough to get something to play with until I am in better financial postion on the new year at some point. Worse coms to worse i may just put the settlement money in the bank and make do with my Sprinter until I am ina postion to find a long term replacement for the W203.
