Hi,
I'm after an update disc for my W211 06 plate (I'm on the original on that came with the car) but reading on here I see that the firmware can also be updated. Where can I get these from at the right price?

If your new maps DVD is a reasonably fresh one, you get the necessary firmware update within the maps DVD.

Head-unit updates can be downloaded from
Daimler AG - Service & Parts net
for free but I don't think a 2006 car would need that.

The price of the disc from comand online is £200, so i thought i'd check my main dealer and they've quoted £150? Any one else enco
untered this?

Is that also the current release? Sounds very low for an official MB dealer price, you must be lucky. Can you get one for my car too at that price?

I rang my local dealer (JCT600 Sheffield) and asked them for the latest sat nav disc for my car, gave them the reg no and was given the price of £125 + VAT?

Think I might just av one of them me sen! :D

Just bought one!

Postage is a bit steep at nearly £8 but hey ho.

Might need it next weekend for getting to TRAX 12! :D

Is this Comand Online Ltd :: Mercedes SatNav/COMAND :: Service Update Disks :: Firmware update for W211/W219 E/CLS with DVD based COMAND (EU Version) different from the download mentioned above?

If you car is pre 2007 and you don't have ETA on the Nav then yes it'll sort that and a few other updates.

If it were me I'd go for the V13 disc at £150, far more worthwhile and all the firmware updates are built in.

If ya just want ETA and think £25 + P&P is worth it then go for it.

Can anyone help with this?

I would say that the safe way is to purchase that original CD from Comand Online. You can be sure that your head unit reads the CD properly. But if you are sure which CD media to use and are able to burn good CDs, downloading the image would be an option.

Thanks for the advice, it seems the best thing to do here is go for the V13 Nav disc.

I don't think that the map disks contain and firmware for the Comand head unit only the DVD boot unit, I would check with Comandonline they can steer you the right way. When I bought V12 it did not contain the update for the head unit so I did download it and it did not like the DVD I burned, this was however only evident at the stage my previous firmware had been deleted during the update process. I was left with no Comand unit at all, it took several update attempts and then a sequence of starting each part of the system separately including phone, tv, Sat Nav, AGW, HK eventually all MOST connections finally became active after 2 days and hours of plugging and unplugging.
The moral of this story, leave it to the experts!

As you say, the navi DVDs would not have any head unit firmware update. But did you burn the head unit service CD on a DVD-media or was it actually a CD even if you mention DVD? The CD would have to be burnt properly on a good CD media, not necessarily straightforward.

I've checked and my comand tells me the ETA when using NAV. Does this mean it has the latest firmware or is ther another way I can check?

That thought crossed my mind.

A CD ISO will not work when burnt onto a DVD, despite the fact that most software will do it anyway.

Is there any easy way to tell what version of firmware you have - or is it a case of looking to see if the Sat Nav has ETA?

Cannot remember if it was a CD or DVD, I know I had to try several different types and also use several different applications to write one that the head unit was finally happy with.
Then once updated I had the problem that my head unit would not recognise some of the MOST devices and only after trial and error of bringing one online at a time did it finally all work.
I can say categorically that I wouldn't do the same again for £25 I would just buy the service disk or get the guys at comandonline to do it for me.

Right!

I'm getting confused now!

Richard/Alfie, are you saying that even if you've bought version 13 of the SAT/NAV disc (in my case for NTG-1 211 cars) that the firmware for the Head unit remains as it was when it left the factory?

In my case this is late 2007 which does have ETA on it, therefore if this is so what does the update give you?
