OK gang looks like we are going to have to get a new car for SWMBO, her role at work has changed which will now see her visiting offices from London to Newcastle, whilst her employers mileage rate is decent it is not going to cover the cost of running the Audi. Also the Audi was bought to chauffeur elderly parents around and this duty now is also no longer required so time for something more frugal and sporty.

Please vote on the list of likely candidates so far and please feel free to post alternative makes and models all help is appreciated. Car needs to be new and Mileage will be somewhere between 10k - 12k per year and probably looking at keeping the car 3 years.

Then comes the hard decision what do I keep as my weekend car the Audi or the MB????????

Thanks for the help:thumb:

Why not consider a CLC?

I was just going to say that.. :D I'm thinking of a CLC myself to replace the Saab soon... :)

Edit: wait a moment, I'm not sure if they're available new any more....

Isn't there a diesel SLK these days? Frugal, slightly sporty, girly....

Given her recent form, she needs one of these:

CLC no longer available new and SLK only a 2 seater so not an option, so that only leaves us with A or B class which are not the most attractive of MB's :D

BMW 1-series, sorry. Their diesel engines seem to set the benchmark for economy these days.

But if I had to choose one from the above it would be the CRZ - something that's interesting and different.

Does the petrol Toyota GT 86 / Subaru BRZ @ 40mpg count as frugal?

BMW not an option has her sister has a new one and as they are twins she thinks it would make her look stupid (Women's logic) but I agree about the benchmark for diesels:thumb: I had a figure in my head of a true 45+ mpg which probably means 50+ mpg Manufacturers figures :D

In reality how many miles will she drive in a year, if it's not huge then depreciation will be by far the biggest cost and as the Audi has already had most of it's value taken out of it, it will work out cheaper than changing for a new, more efficient car.

I'd also vote for 1 series. Maybe a different colour or body style to avoid making it identical to her Sister's.... i believe you can get a hatch and saloon now...

Cos its ****. Got one for my younger sister in law. Full spec 200k .... piece of ****. Golf mk6 pisses all over it. (sorry about the language but the car is crap)

come on, dont hold back, tell us what you really think :D

Golf is a good idea.... but i've never ever warmed to them.

Buy ***'s E320.

Not new but most of it is.

I like the CR-Z, but not sure how reliable it will be doing 10-12k a year, as these cars are not really designed to do many miles, but more to potter around the city.

Is the new A-class not due quite soon and that is an attractive car and should be competitive against the 1 Series.

I'd agree, the new A looks interesting.

I'd recommend the Astra GTC, there's a 300bhp VXR version due out soon.

If that's a bit thirsty for you, they do a 2.0 diesel with about 170bhp.
