I'd recommend the Astra GTC, there's a 300bhp VXR version due out soon.

If that's a bit thirsty for you, they do a 2.0 diesel with about 170bhp.

Alternatively, a VW Golf M1 Cabriolet...

Don't start talking like that, you'll get banned...

CLC220cdi is ok. Just an old design but its a pukka 203 C class.

I'd have to say the 1 series BMW, or maybe a 320d BMW, both are the same chassis underneath and if the 3 series is fun, I bet a 1 series is amazing.

VWs Golf, Audi A3, Ford Focus or even a Volvo C30 are all good cars. A Volvo C30 should be considered mate.

I like the look of the Audi A1 and you can get big car luxury in a small package with the superb TDi engines. Is that too small.

Your list, have you considered leasing? 12K a year, new car, no worry about depreciation (some of those will lose a fortune?)

I have to say I like the dumpy 1 series coupe.... and I also like Golfs but I gess most of these are 25K easy without many options? it just seems a lot for a 'small' car.

How about a TT tdi?, Scrirroco Tdi?

I'll try and answer the questions all in one go

Audi averages 21 mpg so not an option for 12,000+ miles
Agree with HB Mercedes got the naming of the car right Complete Loda Cr*p
Has to be new for reasons I cant post on a public forum ;)
Skoda not an option she hates them with a passion
BMW not an option even a coupe or cab 1 series
Audi A1 too small

Keep them coming though guys very much appreciated, leaning towards c30 at the moment :thumb:

Given you have a Vlovo now, and that's what your leaning towards......

My guess is that's what you will get.

I like the look of them and the sporty ones R design is it? look smart.

Only leaning that way because of the fantastic deals on offer :D

I thought that alfa were quite good for the sports coupe segment, but i guess there's a reason why they're not on your list.

I think the jury is still out but we actually will go view the Giulietta :thumb:

I wouldn't normaly mention something like this but...I spotted it on another forum

£12K for what you get sounds cheap, in 3 years it has to be worth 6K with 36K ??

Cheap motoring

Astra 1.7D estate 38% off (now ok no one will pay list, but it sounds cheap) apparently this is quite a good spec / model also, not a base one,

Used Vauxhall Offers | New & Used Car Dealer Scotland | Peter Vardy

Thanks for that :thumb: will investigate and post back looks a cracking deal

agree with HB. My Golf is giving me 57mpg average over the first 11,000 miles. car is worthy but a tad dull. Does have an issue with rattling interior door handles however dealer has said will change them as this appears to be a known problem.

Volvo. Hands down.

Why. Lot of miles to be driven and I think it is a much safer structure than the Honda also higher off the deck and vision looks a lot better out of the Volvo. Easier to load with all the gumpf for the office I should not wonder. Probably a lappie bag, handbag, shopping bag.

Looking at pictures of the two cars. I think SWMBO will find the Volvo is much easier to make a dignified entry and exit from. Plus which car says most about her in the car park.

Out of all the cars mentioned in the thread so far the Volvo is the one to beat. What would her business suit look like after a couple of hours in the Honda.
Just my 2d worth.

The newest Micra? :D

the Mrs had a 55 plate XC90 geartronic derv thing , hideous to drive , noisy as and 35 mpg , she loved it , I hated it..
Clean straight swap for this , registered by the dealer with 8 miles on it , so brand new..ish ..

She really loves it , the kids love it (its called Suki) , I've driven it .... and really like it..
1.2 , 85 bhp and 50 odd mpg even with me murdering it.. , what's not to like

come on, dont hold back, tell us what you really think :D

Golf is a good idea.... but i've never ever warmed to them.
We should come through to Dunfermline to khushis for one of our nights out.

Ian you can't beat a well specced golf. Phone me and I'll put you in touch with my very good friends at VW up here. They will do you a cracking deal. The refinement in the Volvo is not a patch on the golf which runs silently at 90.
