Hi I know it has been mentioned but the new Focus in a diesel has great mpg and lots of technology?
I always thought of Ford and Jag like the old C and A clothes shop you get bang up to date, cheaply but the intrinsic quality is not there! Best seller in UK so you should shift it easy when the time comes. Just a tool for a job.

Ian you can't beat a well specced golf. Phone me and I'll put you in touch with my very good friends at VW up here. They will do you a cracking deal. The refinement in the Volvo is not a patch on the golf which runs silently at 90.

Cheers Harry we'll go and look at one this weekend and then if she likes it I'll give you a call, thanks for the kind offer much appreciated.

Will also look at the Scirocco whilst there any views on that? which I believe is basically a rebodied golf?

The C30 began in 2007, so it's been made for 6 years now which is the usual life cycle of a car these days. So either a new C30 would be due soon, or as Grober suggests it'll be discontinued.

Hi Ian. My dad had a Scirocco. 2.0t petrol in white with a tan interior. Great car to drive. Ours had the panoramic roof which made it really noisy on the motorway so avoid that. The Scirocco is great with the adaptive suspension and as a diesel, very economical.

Afaik S40,V50 and C30 are all based on the previous ford FOCUS platform dating from the time when Volvo and Ford were one big happy family. The new V40 will still be based on this platform with a few tweaks--- presumably after the "divorce" they weren't allowed access to the new Focus platform. So the new V40 is a new sexy body on a slightly dated :( but well proven :thumb: platform

Haven't read into it, but this week's Autocar carries a test of the V40. Skimming the straplines though - they are talking it up. Easily a match for BMW 1 series and Audi A3 is one of them.

Yep. A Golf in the body of a frog. God knows what the Golf kissed...

In the right colour the Scirroco looks great, a neighbour has a white one, another one a black one, but the best colour is the dark metallic blue.

Sat next to a DS3 it wouldn't even be noticed - other than for its ugliness.

I thought Toyota had all the trophies locked in tha cabinet awarded for 'blandest looking car range' but it seems they've had to hand quite a few over to VW.
Note to VW: I get the idea that your cars are at least half good, but can't a good thing look good too?

Talking of... DS3?
They look fantastic - easily the freshest looking car out there, and they drive well too apparently. Did see one close up though and the paint finish on the drivers door appeared to have a texture modelled on a golf. Golf ball, that is. Pity.

BMW not an option has her sister has a new one and as they are twins

Wasn't that the theme exactly of the first TV ads - except with blokes?

Hello Ian, I think the Scirocco has a disproportionate rear end - a lardy ass, which looks horrible (IMO).

Aren't opinions wonderful. I'd take the C30 over the Sirroco, but the Sirocco over the DS3 purely on styling wise. These cars are Marmite cars, they are styled to suit a particular taste, you either like 'em or you don't.

The MK6 Golf is called bland purely as its competant, whats wrong with that? If its like the MK5 with a nice interior its such a complete all rounder I seeing it hard to better as an every day car.

Me though, my money, it would be off to get a 1 series. But I like RWD cars.

Just shows it's all personal taste I think the DS3 is Pug ugly and no way would I let one near our drive. Golf is bland I agree, C30 is a much better deal than Scirocco but thats to be expected if it's being dropped from the range, off looking on Monday :thumb:

New Megane is a lot bigger than I thought it would be.

Have you considered anything from the SEAT stable Ian ?
