Two years ago an airbag for my SL was £406 plus VAT ...

Haynes manual recommends renewal of airbags every 10 years!

Yep, but I'll bet 95%+ of all cars (10 yrs +) on UK roads with air bags have never had them replaced :);)

Too right I know.. Not something I would do! Would cost more than most 10 year old cars!

The company Carisma, what was full name? Carisma Bodytech? or Carisma Automotive Design?

both lol

bodytech do bodywork, and automotive deign do interiors etc..

fyi, these guys are the guys who do the cars for mtv`s UK pimp my ride. not to everyones taste, and i didnt know this when i went there, but the works good, poeple are really friendly, no complaints.

I thought so.. thats why I asked.. I wasnt sure if they were the same company.. I happened to be watching PMR UK last night on TMF haha..

Workmanship looks top though, even if the whole 'Pimp' stuff doesnt appeal to me..

Nothing you want to tell us is there ? ;)

Just kidding mate , was the bird with the pink hair there ? Imaginatively called ' Pinky ' IIRC ...

lol, yeah defo! only a steering wheel.. and my headrest screen covers... thats it!

must admit tho, very easy to speak to bunch of guys, not up themselves, and had some quality cars in there having interiors re-done.

they deserve some of these for the work they done for me!

:bannana: :bannana:

I remember the owner on Fifth Gear a while back with his souped up TVR. It had 17 dials which had to be flown in from the States in it along with custom interior:crazy:

I think it's similar to the PMR series, all a demonstration of how good they are at doing custom things with interiors.

Just joined your forum (very good and informative) I have a 2004 (W211) E320 CDi, and the steering wheel is looking a bit worn at the 12 o clock position, i have just dropped the guys an e-mail at Carisma, but wondered if anyone knows where i can get a replacement wheel at a descent price? i check e-bay regularly but can't find my colour - my car has the two tone grey leather interior (light grey bottom of door cards and dash/dark grey top half of dash and door cards, i was also wondering if their is a wheel available with the bidseye mapple? i think i may have seen one on an E500. all suggestions/help greatly appreciated.
Keep up the good work!!! :)

Try partsspecialist, he's a member on here and works for MB and can get you a good discount if you ask nicely. He's however away until the 15th of September

Anyone got any contact details for partsspecialist? if you read this partsspecialist can you drop me an e-mail to [email protected], i'm looking for a price for a new steering wheel (hopefully you can beat the £840.00 + VAT quoted from my local dealer)

Pre 1992 models had a airbag lifespan of 15 years. Post 1992 models do not require replacing.

Wish my SL airbag had a chrome star :(

The Vito one does.

Isn't that because SL drivers are very discerning and don't want to go round with a Star imprint on their head after an big accident, whether for a proportion of the white man van driver its a symbol of "hey I crashed my van and even got the airbag to go off"

(sorry any Vito owners, couldn't resist ..)

Richard

Welcome !

I know whitenemesis (on this forum) obtained a Birds Eye Maple wheel for a W203 C class (very much *not* compatable with pre MY07 W211), but i'll PM him for you and see if he can comment on this here

Sorry, missed this one!!

Yes I obtained a BEM/leather wheel for my 203. It was a custom made wheel as MB don't do BEM for the 203. I got it through these people. Very good service and quite reasonable (less than you've been quoted!). You will have to ring them for prices etc. The airbag was extra.

MB do BEM for the 211 though so you could try here on ebay, lots of different types, changes quite often. They don't tend to have airbags though.

Carbon steering wheel is now up for sale !!

I have seen deployed airbags with the chrome star, it does not come off of the airbag, so assuming all goes well, your face only meets the deployed airbag. I would be very concerned with aftermarket emblems glued onto the airbag though, those would be dangerous.
