Gotta say that this does look rather smart.

Depending on how it drives I'd be very tempted with a high spec one of these as a company car for 3 years rather than a poverty spec German marques!!

You have to love the ADVERT for it aswell

"Unmistakeably German"

The concaved rear screen is a nice idea, but I will stick to my Merc's :)

if depreciation is irrelevant, it would be an interesting and RARE alternative.

I like the way it looks too.

Year old it will be a great buy

Maybe some good lease deals also

My own money new...NO way

But then you Never pay anything like the asking price.

The estates were nice at the Geneva show and build quality looked on par also.

I had a look at this this morning as I was passing the big Citroen garage in Chiswick. Yes, I too think it's quite smart.

But the (diesel) engine line-up is surprisingly poor. The 2.7 HDI emissions (in the estate) are too high (225) and the lower-powered engines are too slow because of the fairly heavy body (1500kg).

The forthcoming 250CDI in the C-class would look to be a far better bet, and frankly the leasing deals won't be that much more after allowing for the different prices, discounts and depreciation rates that the two cars will have.

Come the second hand market for these cars, and you will find yourself a great bargain. I wouldn't recommend buying a new french car :p

Some friends had the last C5 model just after it was released. Two months into their ownership and lots of niggling electrical faults, they were told the car required a completely new wiring loom to be replaced under warranty. Needless to say they insisted on a new replacement vehicle which to citroen's credit they got. As far as I know the second car has been fine.

I'm sorry, but I think Citroens are just UGLY. I also had one once and it was a pig of a thing when it went wrong, cost a fortune, so much so that in the end I was glad to get rid of it and ended up with my mother in laws old Vaxhaul Astra!!! I was happy to change it to that - that's how bad it had got!

I am sure modern ones are more reliable, but goodness they are still as ugly as ever.

the citroen picasso we have has been fine - never really put a foot wrong!

still selling it for the W124 though!!

Yep....can agree there.....Citroen use a suspension system that even their own dealerships don't understand. They seem to have a knack of seriously over-complicating just about every moving part on their cars.

A friend of mine had one, and the thing would make all sorts of noises after you switch it off.

It went to the dealership several times, and finally the service manager told him that even they don't understand how the thing works and suggested that he should get rid of it......that was off the record :)

Well I'm sorry I disagree - I think Citroen's are NOT ugly...its nice to see some individuality out there....BUT this C5 is more "mainstream" looking - back looks like Audi - it's rather nice and will make someone a great 18 month old car - sorry I wouldn't put my money into it ..rather have the Ford Mondeo / Mazda 6 if I was looking at that class of car..or the new Insignia when that comes out.. (actually BMW 3 series is now more Common than the Ford Mondeo in British roads..lol)...:bannana: Q. Mr. R.S....

Beauty is all about soul, Jade :) Reliability & cost be darned

I love the C6, and I think the C5 is a beautiful car, even if it is a bit Audi A4 at the back.

Edit: Just like Crockers said :)

Thats horrendous aswell!

Nice to see a split opinion on this.

I'm with imadoofus - the CX is gorgeous. Remember that design is 33, yes 33 years old now!

I've been seriously tempted to get an early CX for a long time now!

Im not that old, but I can remember my Granparents driving a pea-green CX during the mid 80's. One of the earliest cars I can remember. I remember at the time comparing it do the toy cars I played with (including a brown W123 :) ) and thinking back then as a child that it was ugly as hell.

While orignality should be encouraged in the car industry, Citroens have always been horrid in my eyes!

I've had one or two briefly pass through my hands in the past :)

Space-ship ride, bonkers (Mk 1) interior, and beautiful lines make it one heck of a car. But they rust like blink, and they're very scarce in the UK. France has a plentiful supply, and I'd love one to keep at my house over there.

Mrs D thinks otherwise...

A car doesnt need to be reliable to be beautiful..if so no-one would ever have bought an Alfa Romeo.........to have owned one was fantastic - 1978 Alfa sud 1.3 ti.......nothing went wrong --- except .......a bit of rust.

Followed by a 1.6 Guiletta ............. after 6 months and a new gearbox / new brakes etc etc.....I turned away from the light...........

Hi,
I had a GS, a GSA an a CX Break! Brilliant cars, if you have the right mechanic at hand!
The new C5 comes with a choice of suspensions, hydropneumatic and ordinary springs!
But I think Citroen have lost the plot since Peugot took over the company.

So, if I want to buy German I will buy a German car: A Mercedes-Benz (from C-Class onwards!) not a pseudo German Citroen, but I I would be tempted by an original Andre Citroen however old.
