Hi all,

i am tony 44 from London and have been driving my alfa gtv 2.0 TS for the last 12 years and now feel with age that i can finally go for that convertible

I have looked, studied, compared, dreamt of various cars from Mx5, to the new alfa spider only to be told that chain belts are problematic, or boot too small etc

The top 2 were chosen as my ideal car

alfa spider 2.4 diesel or slk200 1.8

my mechanic advised me to steer clear of the 1.8 due to leaking oil issues and time chain issuesn

damn i thought, unreal !!!

however, he advised me the v6 3 litre would be the one to go for but i thought no way, tax will be sky high and the insurance

however, it appears the co2 on the 3 litre is not that bad and annual tax is aroud £290 and my insurance is not that bad, so, my question is from you pros, is the 1.8 that bad, and should i go for the 280

thanks all

What sort of age SLK are you looking for?

Can't help on the 1.8, but there are potential issues on the V6 M272 engine (there's a whole thread on the M272) up to a particular engine number.

Personally, I'd go for a facelift (2008/9 and on) V6 car, preferably the 350 which is better equipped than the 280, is faster and has no worse fuel economy.

Guys, have purchased a beaut in black met, 2008, 280 with 18" amg wheels, pick it up soon, can't wait !!!

You'll be glad that you went for a 6 cylinder the first time you get the roof down.

Test drive was amazing, roof down especially when someone was up my ass and I hit sport mode and kick down

My engine appears to he safe m272 31 not 30

Congratulations :thumb:

They're great fun and make a lovely noise

Well, got it today, whoa

Drove down from Hertford to Twickenham, fuel low came on but it got me home !!

What a drive, went back out with the mrs around Richmond park, she couldn't stop smiling, and to top it all, she wanted to go fast, she loved the torque !

So, these things pretty secure, I mean my old handbrake to gear lever autolok works, but I got standard alarm?
