Can recommend Mercland , bought my current ML from them, after sales service no complaints at all, would buy again if was looking

Should add to my earlier comment I have bought a car from Jay, about 7 years ago. That was a 2004 e class on about 85k. Since then its done about 55k.

In our ownership its needed lower front control arms. A rear spring snapped so replaced both, the battery control module went north a number of years ago, Jay fitted a second hand one and its been fine ever since. The other week the water pump gave up the ghost so we replaced that at the road side.

All in I don't think that's too bad (especially how she drives!!)

I prefer to buy from a garage based on recommendations, my experience of buying a MB from a non specialist was not particularly good, getting faults sorted using genuine OMB parts was damn near impossible.

Looks good but with that budget there will be plenty around, only rush if you need to buy right now,we are heading for a good time to buy a car the run up to xmas is normally dead, best deal I ever got was between xmas and the new year.

Yeah, good idea to go with a specialist. Do you guys know if there are Haynes manuals for the e class - I only see older ones?!

Yeah I do need it fast to be honest, flying back from US tomorrow night and I have hire car for so long. So need to buy a decent e class sooner rather than later but don't want to make any mistakes on buying!

Does anyone know if there is a transmission stick to check on the eclass

I've always driven manual so new to auto!

Just check service record, should all be electronic. Gearbox T/F changed on mileage or time, whichever comes first, check service needed by model you are buying. If due or overdue negotiate to have it done by supplying garage. If has good service record it should have been done , think it is 4 years or about 40 k miles ( depends on box, think 7g+ might be 5 years and higher miles )

Jay is honest, approachable and good to his word.

He's helped me a few times with small stuff and would not take any payment - I like and respect him as a result.

Whilst waiting for my flight home, does the eclass have a dipstick for the transmission. I want to check the oil to see if burnt. Does anyone have a checklist before buying a Merc in generally or specifically to the eclass?

Thanks again for all the awesome help folks, really appreciate this forum :)

Well when you are looking at £14,000 E class you are getting the 7g+ box now I have driven the 7g and the 7g+ and the 7g+ is a better box it has a different ATF oil ,i am hoping to get my hands on a 9g car to see what that new box is like the price of those cars will have to come down a fair bit before I can buy one of them, with the cars you are thinking of buying the 2.1 will give you great mpg, even the 2.5 returns good mpg, when you get to the 350 then you are starting to sacrifice mpg ,it sounds like you have no trade in so I would expect you can drive a decent deal.

Cool thanks for that, so the 7+ is better, will keep that in mind. I drove a new e class (hire car) 9G 220 and it was a dream to drive. So that is why I want an e class but cannot afford 25K for a new one. Plus I have two little ones that ruin the back of cars. Ha!

Cheers
