Just found the forum and thought i'd join up and say hi, had a few old Mercs in me time (not keen on newer cars of any sort to be honest)

Heres me current effort, needs a few jobs doing and a repaint and it will have a few mods done to it to help it cope with todays traffic, but should very much retain its character and looks. I'll get some better pics of her at some point as things progress.

Old Skool

Welcome on board !

Its a Buick, belongs to the guy i got the coupe from, he also owned a Ford/Lotus concept car from some 80's motorshow, a pickup truck with hydraulic suspension, and a couple of 60's chevys, i got the Mercedes at a very good price simply cos he had no room or time for it.

Welcome to the forum mate and a nice 280CE you got there, do keep us informed with the restoration.

Hello, good to see an 'interesting' MB on the forum.

Welcome!

It's a beauty! Good luck with restoration.

Welcome along.

Good to have variety and not just the newer stuff....................

Welcome on Board,
look forward to seeing the refurb progress!

Lovely old 280!

(Nice to see the new Mercs have something in common with the old ones - it's a four letter word beginning with R .... )

My old 220 saloon was rusty, this one needs a small patch welded on in the drivers side front wheel well and a repair panel under a rear light, the scabs on the body work should rub out, none of it has penetrated the bodywork, i'll rub them down, treat the area, skim of filler and she'll be ready for paint, the drivers side has already been done and is waiting for painting.

I like it!

Hi and welcome :)

popuptoaster - what's that white car in the background? Ford base, 2.0l engine.....

Would love a classic Merc like that, but time, money, technical nous ( & family) does not allow! Good luck & keep those of us that just wish for one of these updated!

Its a Ford/Lotus concept car built for a motor show back in the 80's, it looks like a cross between a Lotus Eclat/Matra Bagheera and a DeTomaso Pantera when you look round it.

They are cheaper than you think, dont devalue, and much better built than the current cars, if you can live without some luxuries and the higher fuel use they are practical as an everday car, all the parts are still available from Mercedes Benz, a headlight lens is £16.50+VAT next day delivery, you can buy all the parts to build up a new straight 6 twin cam 2.8 like mine has for around £4000. They are MUCH simpler to fix than modern cars, the W114 was famous for doing 2 or 3 hundred thousand miles with no bother in the hands of cab drivers, its just the rust that needs keeping on top of, buy a pre '73 one and the road tax is free, insurance is cheap as well.

Not everyones cup of tea i admit, but buy a goodun and there is no reason why you couldnt enjoy classic motoring for a while and then sell it on for a small profit or at least no loss.

Check this out, it was my second choice if the silver one had turned out to be a dog.

I love these old 114 coupes too. I've got a 1971 250CE but the sills and floor have badly rusted and is beyond economic restoration. It's a shame as there's only 54K miles on it so the mechanical bits are barely run-in.
