Next-Gen Mercedes E Class to Feature Driver Attention Support System

The car already would have a lot of data stored from accidents that insurance companies would like to access. MB would not give that except perhaps at an extreme case (don't remember an example, was it the well known MB accident in Paris quite some time ago).

That data though is vehicle related, this would be measuring human activity it's a different ball game.

I could see a scenario when an insurer in conjunction with this type of plan asks you to sign a waiver http://www.insurancejournal.com/news/international/2004/08/18/45033.htm

after all its not too dissimilar to the box in lorries today (forgot name of the thing)

Tachograph. Or do you mean the real time tracker devices.

Next they will have a needle that pops out of the steering wheel into your finger to monitor your blood sugar level ....

Before you drive off , you must connect all these pads to your chest and head so we can monitor your brain waves ...

Do you not think that sometimes car manufacturers do things just so they can say they can ?

10 years down the line , none of this is going to work anyway , it'll just be a bargaining tool to knock the price of the secondhand car down ...

' Kidney Dialasis Machine broken is it mate ? , you'll have to knock another grand off for that ..... '

I read somewhere that they had developed a car (maybe USA) which wouldn't start if you had been on the sauce

The tacho was implemented to stop drivers from pulling long shifts and falling asleep at the wheel which is why I can see this becoming a part of regular motoring as it does make sense really.

If you refuse to let the police analyse your data recorder it could be misconstrued as with holding evidence, same as a breath test.

Hi,

Won't this system be an OPTION?....so if you don't want it don't buy it...it sort of undermines one's driving ability as one should always be alert....but this is obviously not always so....zzzzzzzzzzzzz.....zzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Cheers,

In California, the court may restrict a habitual offender to driving only vehicles equipped with a Breathalyzer ignition interlock. They have to blow the car before they can drive it (there's your softball for the day). I don't know what other states have fallen into this path of revenue generation.

It's all part of The Collapse.

Couldn't someone else just blow into it ?

Soon it going to be finger print or iris recognition before you can start your car.:D

These technologies have been here for more than 10 years.

All designed to stay one step adhead of the competition. Car manufacturers have to devise new technologies to keep us upgrading and buying.
Was the time when Air Con was the must have toy, now even a Micra has it as standard. Its called progress.
Drive a 1955 Morris Minor and you will see what I mean.

There's progress and then there is nannying and erosion of freedoms that are creeping in.

EG in the USA some insurers fit camera's to the car to watch your driving in the event of an accident-it was on Roadwars last night and footage of someone nodding off @ the wheel, your car can convict you of crimes... How long will that take before it comes to the UK. Then there is this nannying breathe in before you drive.

Oh, but that would be against the law. Rather like driving whilst intoxicated was for the first time those ignorant gits did it to start with, and still was the next time they offended, and the repeated times that followed.

Welcome to Stupidopolis.

Don't look to me for the answer. I'd have a world with no hungry cats, and much mulching going on.
