A nice looking SEC. But i should add i viewed this car, and its a DOG!! How can something that looks so nice be so bad! Heres the list:

*Well the paintwork is dull, lots of oversparay esp on the glass, and front wings. Alot of drip marks and peeling on the bumpers
*The tinted windows look like they've been done at home, with almost a 1 cm gap left around the edges!
*Also on start up there's a puff of blue smoke!
*The timing chain rattles so badly i'm suprised it hasn't broke yet!
*Lost history, no previous MOTs, said he's owned the car for a few years but has actually had it 8 months. He reckons Mercedes will send him a new service book stamped up??? Car's covered 300k in my opinion.
*LPG converted but only done 10k in last 3 years
*Leather is worn thin on drivers seat to reveal a whole (never happens on a W126)
*Drives with so many rattles, whine from rear diff, swerves on hard braking.
*Insisted he wants £6k for a car worth a max £1500 due to the amount of work required. Will not get through next MOT on my opinion.

And its describved as the best SEC out there! But the photos make it look stunning, and well his description....... Well he wasted a 5 hour round trip for me so i wasn't impressed.

And nearly forgot, the speedometer is reading 40k
Apparently had a speedo change but no documents to prove this.

Does look good from the pic. I notice the reserve price is £1221 Not quite what you say he wanted.

Where in the west mids is it?

I enquired about this, he said the reserve was £5k!

Birmingham. He told me his reserve was £7k but was open to offers. I guarentee that whoever wins this auction will not purchase the car. It is that bad, and with no paperwork, dodgy speedo, LPG conversion its not worth it unless its cheap.

It needs a top end rebuild at the least inc new timing chain (£1000), new ball joints, wishbones, shock absorbers etc, rear diff looked at, the paintwork rebuffed and possibly repainting a few panels esp the bottom half of the car, a nice leather retrim, removal of the tinted windows etc. Basically looking at least £3k to have the car back to a half decent condition. Then you end up with a car with no history, and basically worth alot less than the money you put into it.

The car's been relisted on ebay. It got to £5900 before but reserve not met.

If it was a genuine 110k with history and in good condition i would have been interested.

[/QUOTE]

Why do people misdescribe their cars like this? Do they think because someone has driven for 2 or 3 hrs. to look at it they'll buy, even if it's a complete POS?

I recently drove up to Albrighton (130 miles one way) to look at a "beautiful, pristine, etc, etc, blah, blah, blah" low mileage 190E 2.6. The bumper had been described as being 1/4 of an inch out of line - it was pushed 1 1/2 inches into the bodywork, the boot had been repainted with a brush, there were at least two other spots hit, v. poorly repaired and never mentioned on the phone, the sunroof stuck open, the wheels were destroyed by kerbing, & on & on & on.

The bloke also had a 3 year old E class estate and I must admit I took pleasure in peeling back his door rubbers to show him his rotting doors. I figured he earned it and the look on his face made us even, nearly.

The sad reality is that someone without the expertise of KLP will buy this car. It looks like it has reached its new low reserve price?

glojo,

You're right. Some track suit wearing, baseball capped wannabe gansta pimp will think it's the doggies. Innit.

klp, on paper at least this looks more promising. It's got a long MOT too.

Doesn't look much compared to the black one though! I've been after a 500/560 SEC for the last 2 years but i don't want a high miler ie over 100k, and don't want to spend £10k on a concours example either. Basically i will end up modifying the car and if i buy a low mileage concours car i will end up making it lose its value and appeal to some future buyers.

These cars to me are MERCEDES-BENZ and I look forward to seeing the car you eventually buy.

Good luck with your search,
John

Yes, a tad overpriced and the ones reasonably priced aren't in clean condition or would need bodywork done as these cars are prone to rusting.

I've got my eye on one, made him an offer but we're £500 apart so we'll see.

are you still planning to sell your SL600?

Have finalised a deal with a close friend, i'll be taking my old SL i sold to him in PX with cash on top for the 600. He's awaitng to have his plate taken off and i'm doing the same. But i'll be buying an SEC regardless as it will be more of a project.

ah right. I really fancy changing my C36 for something different, either a cruising coupe or soft-top and would have been interested.

Just shows you what a lottery buying a car on e-bay could be if you went with the description and didn't view first.

I think the car looks fantastic and I would gladly have that as a toy
